When is it appropriate to change your status on SDN?

  • Whenever you get around to it, hopefully before you're a resident/fellow/attending/deceased.

Friends, Americans, Countrymen,

When is it appropriate to change your status on SDN once you've been accepted? The goal is to avoid being a dingus and doing it too soon. Though perhaps by wondering about this out loud, I've moved into the realm of the who gives a hoot.

Eh I still wouldn’t, it looks dumb. Everyone is still a Pre-med until they matriculate.

Maybe. I think Medical Student (Accepted) and MS-0 labels were created to signify this transition from being accepted to starting school. This is where people can do what they want (assuming they met the school acceptance requirements) before starting school. It’s definitely better than any premed stages before that so having a special status is nice. But YMMV

Medical Student (Accepted) is for people who have been accepted but have not started school.

Medical Student indicates someone who is currently in medical school.

This may a dumb question but I figured I'd ask: Above your signature with the LizzyM score, what are the numbers and characters for?
Do you mean this part?

1°: 30 | 2°: 23 | II: 20 | IA: 11| R: 1 | W/D: 2 | A: 2

If so:
1° = # of primary applications initially sent to medical schools
2° = # of secondary applications actually sent
II = interview invites
IA = interviews attended
R = rejections
W/D = withdrawals
A = acceptances

Yep! I figured it was something along those lines but didn't want to assume. Good to know for future reference, though. Thanks! Also, congrats!

It doesn’t really matter, once you’ve been accepted med school will start soon enough.

Just FYI, "IA" can also mean "Institutional Action" depending on the context.

That's right. I read a post about someone on here that was given one when they were wrongfully accused of cheating on an exam. Wasn't thinking of that. Thanks for bringing it up! Congrats on your acceptances!

Whenever the hell you want. We're just a bunch of random internet strangers. A common trend among SDN users seems to be that they take everything on here too seriously!
