Question regarding the DAT exam. Is taking the test on August 12th too late for this cycle? What is the latest exam late?

There is no latest exam date. However, the sooner you apply, the better chance you get because of the rolling cycle. August isn't still late even though it is not early.
Remember, some schools require DAT to be taken before certain date. So you might want to check each school's website.

I would say that August is late, but not TOO late.

Some schools have already issued interview invites by mid-August, and if you haven't applied until then, you've already put yourself at a great disadvantage.

So is it still advantageous to apply now without a DAT score as schools won't look at your app anyways till they get the scores?

I took mine in Nov last year and got into NYU, but most schools had their classes pretty much figured out by the time everything got to them. Take it as early as you can, or it will be a lot more stress for you.
