Hey everyone,
I have a quick question... At what point in dental school did you get your loupes? Did you wish that you would have got them sooner or waited? I received an email from my school today saying that surgitel will be at the school on Thursday, but I don't even start dental school until July. Should I wait to buy loupes? Or should I get them right in the beginning so that I don't have to readjust to working with loupes after learning to work without them?
Thanks!

My advice is to get them right from the beginning. I really feel like working with loupes vs. without is night and day.

Also, just my opinion, but I am not entirely happy with my surgitel loupes and very unhappy with my surgitel head light (heavy light and really bulky/heavy battery pack). Going back I would have considered another company. Shop around.

I would agree with getting them as soon as possible. Most of the doctors here at marquette use them to grade projects, so why not see what they see when i'm completing the project!

I actually have surgitel and LOVE them. I think that the advice of shopping around is very good. Everyone has different opinions and desire different things from their loupes. So it's important to find out what works for you!

Good luck!

Definitely get them before you start in the simulation clinic. Getting used to the 0.2 mm details and bevels and stuff is much easier when you can see everything close up.

I have also been happy with my surgitel loupes, however by third year many of my classmates wanted to look at other options. It might not be a bad idea to look at what's out there if you aren't keen on buying new ones a few years later if by chance you aren't comfortable in the surgitel ones.

Buy some as soon as you can only then will you be truely happy. Plan on buying a light and an extra set of loupes too. You don't want to take any chances. Endo is much easier if you bring your own scope so shop around early for the best deals.

We didn't start operative or pros until after the first semester. I believe one person had loupes to wax. After first semester, almost everyone purchased loupes.
