It's been six weeks so far and after every single lecture, people applaud. I can't be the only one that thinks this is weird (guest speakers aside).

It's been six weeks. Stop going to class.
That phenomenon kind of faded away after the first couple of weeks at my school, other than the occasional guest/new lecturer or really well-done lecture.
Edit: Nice blog. 👍

yeah, I don't think that ever occured at my school except for guest lecturers or amazing ones.
No one clapped for the kreb cycle. no one.
I usually clapped, unless it was a heinous lecture. Just shows appreciation for the lecturer. Then again I was a class-goer. I missed less than 10 classes M1 and M2 year (aside from pharm, which was awful).
We all spontaneously clapped when the professor said we didn't have to memorize the kreb cycle.

Im not sure why people clap in med school.
We are major clappers. We even organize particularly enthusiastic applause/standing ovation on our Facebook group during class.
I love this post so much I want to make it false promises at prom night!
Seriously though... this was never a thing at my school but I've heard of it. Stop it... stop it right now. There are only 2 reasons this happens. 1) someone is a kiss ass and lacks the foresight to know that faculty don't give a damn about pre-clinic students, or 2) the pre-med in you compels you (all lemming fashion) to go along with the nonsense so that you don't get out gunned by the guy described in #1.
Be respectful. The lecturer would much (to an epic degree) be asked questions about his or her lecture than to be awkwardly applauded off.
I still hear claps at the end of every podcasted lecture from the remaining 20 students that still attend lecture. There's also people that clap at the end of any CBLs or small groups.

Also, even though I was a clapper, I only clapped if it was the lecturer's last/only lecture for us. It doesn't make sense to clap after every lecture if we see the same guy 5 times a week for a month.
I wonder if we're at the same school OP.
I do hate that we keep doing it after every single lecture. We've been doing it for so long it's probably guaranteed it'll keep going for the rest of the year for every. single. lecture. Most of our lecturers are pretty awful, rushing through things and what not, and they still get applause. It's so silly. And it's not like it makes them go nicer on us or anything. And yet I always join in, although halfheartedly -_-
People clap at my school which is kinda gay, but there are people who do the last clap battle which I find hilarious and never gets old.
I started the clap at the end of every lecture, even during third year. I found it hilarious because everyone feels obligated to join in.
Man who cares about the clapping. OP don't you have better **** to do than worry about clapping after lecture? wtf?
Posting on SDN is pretty high on my list of priorities these days.
The clapping...the horrible clapping. My class is pretty bad about it. Some of the other students recognize how funny it is and actually start the whole chain reaction by clapping two or three times....then its off to the races as the whole class decides to jump in. They think its funny. I think its annoying.
