I am applying for pharmacy school this summer (summer 2017). Right now, my plan is to ask my professors for a letter of reccomendation at the beginning of spring semester. Is that too late? Should I ask them earlier or is the timing fine?

Thats fine. Ask about 2-3 months in advance. Ask in april or before and then go check up one more time before summer break and remind them. Tell them you need whatever the pharmcas app opens up.
