When Should I decide to leave for Florida?

Right now I'm waitlisted at SUNY SB, SUNY UB, SUNY Downstate. Upstate hates me!

I was accepted to 4 osteo schools. My oreintation will be July 29th 2002 at NOVA Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine. The school is in Florida so I will have to find an APT or condo.

I don't want to be rushed in setting up down in Florida. When should I make the decision to leave for Florida. I also would rather go to one of the SUNY schools, preferably SB or UB. It would save me 15K to 20K each year.

Should I wait to the last minute. Or should I set a date and say, well if I don't here anything by July 1st then go to Florida.

Don't go to nova. Go to the SUNY schools. Nova is expensive as hell and I don't think its worth it. Tell SUNY that you need to know soon.

I've already asked the SUNY schools and they said that there will not be any movemnet until late April or May.

What should I tell them?

I think the best plan is to just leave for Florida one week before orientation or the first day of school. This method will allow you to still attend one of the SUNY schools you are waitlisted at in case their is movement and you are subsequently accepted.

Also, if this is your first or second time applying to medical school, then I suggest you withdraw from NOVA. If things don't work out for you this year in terms of allopathic medical schools, then I think you should try to apply one more time. I followed this advice myself and now I will be attending a very prestigious medical school come this fall. Like you, I was waitlisted at several schools the first time I applied. I did not get accepted and so, with a few improvements on my application, I applied again. My luck changed!

Hey hey. Florida is nice. I agree with everyone else though. I think you should stick to allopathic and go to SUNY. I am sure that if you have so many waitlists, then you will get in. Best of luck to you!
