I plan on taking my DAT in the summer of 08

When exactly should I start studying full time, and when should i take the test so I will be ready to apply at the begin of the application cycle?

Thanks

start studying next year around feb for a mid may test date...if you have to you can push that back depending on your schedule. make sure you apply early. if you can't hack studying with your college course work just study over the summer for a end of july test date.

The most important thing is to just blow it away and apply early.

when you have finished your prereqs study for the DAT. Depends on your study habits. I would recommend studying about average 1-2 hrs a day for a month or two to get your feet wet, then study hardcore 5-7 hours a day for 1-2 months. I personally don't think its that good of an idea to plan to study for 5 months straight 10 hrs a day. I ythink that's a bit unrealistic. I prefer more realistic goals, they are more easy to attain.

I would study lightly for April and May then hardcore for June and then take it early July. Then you can finish your application and repeat the exam early October if needed.

awesome, and what study tools do you guys recommend, Kaplan?

do a search on SDN. I'd try to get hold of someone's Kaplan materials (books, online stuff and pdf's) and do Topscore, DAT Achiever, DAT Destroyer. DO NOT RELY ON KAPLAN ALONE. I only used Kaplan until about 2 weeks before the exam , then I got DAT Achiever and it ended up having a lot of the same Q's that were on my real exam. I would recommend getting Achiever closer (but not too close) to your exam date because you only get it for 3 months and you will remember some of the questions. And the PAT on the real exam is a lot easier than the PAT from Achiever, and a bit harder than on Kaplan, so doing both will give you good practice. The angles part on the real exam are much more similar to Achiever and 10x harder than Kaplan--the Kaplan practice angles are basically a give away compared to the real thing. Best of luck :luck:
