I'm going into my second year of school, and attend a university that is switching from quarters to semesters next summer (summer 2012). Because of that, I think it may mess up when I can take the DAT. Aren't you supposed to/smart to take the DAT after you have completed both the gen chem and o chem series? So far this is how I have it planned out
Fall 2011--Gen Chem 2
Winter 2012--Gen Chem 3
Spring 2012--No Chem (you cannot start a new chem series spring quarter)
****Quarter to Semester Transition****
Fall 2012--O Chem 1
Spring 2012--O Chem 2 (the end of o chem series)

So if I take O chem 2 next spring, will I be able to study for the DAT at the same time? Or would it be too much? What month do students usually take the DAT?

Thanks in advance for your advice. Sorry if what I said above is a bit confusing.

Depending on the load for Spring 2012 semester... but I am a huge advocate of studying for 3 months in the summer and take the test at the end of August before you go back for the Fall semester. I don't know how people can handle heavy load of school work and prepare for the DAT at the same time. However, if you feel confident that you can handle both DAT and school work at the same time by all means go for it.

Personally, I recommend summer2012 to take the DAT. You just have finished organic chemistry so you'd probably save a lot of time studying that and general chemistry is still relatively fresh. So you might not even need all 3 months honestly.
