hey guys,

If I plan on submitting my AMCAS on June 1st, then when should my college transcript be sent to AAMC? I'm asking this because my college does not update its transcript for Spring semester grades until mid-June. Obviously I am not submitting my transcript without this Spring's grades.

Does that put me at a disadvantage? People here keep saying you need to turn in everything as soon as possible.

It does not put you at a huge disadvantage. You will still be considered "early." It can take up to six weeks for grades to be verified and uploaded to AMCAS but this usually is not the case.

So, is it theoretically possible to submit my college transcript on June 1st along with AMCAS?

No.

You have to wait till June 15 to send the transcripts to AMCAS. It'll take a few days for it to be received by AMCAS and about a month to be verified. You'll receive most secondaries mid-July. Some schools will send them before you're verified. For the UC schools, it won't make much of a difference because their secondaries don't come out until Aug. Basically, you'll still be "early"- "very early" for most schools. Just make sure your LORs are ready and fill out the secondaries as fast as possible (aim for them to be done by mid-Aug). If you do that, you'll be fine :luck:

Yeah that sucks (like the Patriots). I had the same problem with my spring grades not being out till June. If you submit in June you should have no problem or be at a disadvantage....I would say anything up until

May 1st (or when ever it opens) to June 1st = Gunner
June 1st to July 15th = early
July 15th to Sept 1st = normal
Sept 1st till close = Late

Would there be a reason to hold out on submitting your application? if not than there is no reason you should get it in as early as possible.

BOOM! Next Question

Thanks, all, especially jgberken. I'm wondering why it takes AMCAS a month to verify your transcript if you send it in really early like I'm planning to?

No problem 🙂

Haha yeah, AMCAS takes forever to verify. But I think if you send your transcripts out mid-June, it'd take 2-3 weeks (4 would probably be the worst case scenario). And, hey, you could always work on secondaries if you have extra time during break.

I remember worrying about how long it takes to send out transcripts too...but it all worked out in the end. 🙂

You have to wait till June 15 to send the transcripts to AMCAS.

I think you are mistaken about this. When I posted in the AMCAS Verification Thread this summer, I noticed quite a few people who said their transcripts had been submitted in May.

Until I saw those posts, it had never occurred to me that you could do this, but I'd recommend it to future applicants. Although they won't start checking your transcript until you submit the application itself, there won't be any delay while they wait for the transcript to arrive. And if you file AMCAS in mid-June with transcripts in hand, it should take you a week or less to get verified. (I filed in late July and it took 3 weeks.)

AMCAS acknowledged that they received my transcript on June 2nd. I didn't submit my primary app until early July, so I can't say what they do with transcripts before June 15. But they will accept them.

Ohh yeah! You can submit your transcripts early May...but spring grades in his school don't come out until June 15...which is why I was saying he has to wait till June 15 to submit his transcripts to AMCAS. But you're absolutely right, it's much better to submit your transcripts in May, if possible.

I had this same problem when I was applying this last year because my school's transcripts didn't come out until June 12th.

I submitted my AMCAS on June 11th, then sent in the request form on June 12th for transcripts. AMCAS got my transcripts June 18th and then it was verified on July 21st!!! It was a really long wait for this and I thought that it would put me at a slight disadvantage, but it really didn't. I started receiving secondary requests every day after and could have been done and submitted with everything in early August. (I was traveling in countries with limited internet access so it took me until September)

I would suggest that you try to get everything in ASAP (AMCAS first day), but don't send the transcript until all your grades are there (but then send it in right away). Start working on your secondaries before your AMCAS is verified. Secondary questions really don't change from year to year so you can look them up on SDN. It will all become a huge burden if you wait until they start coming in. Most schools send secondaries to everyone, but if you are worried about doing extra unnecessary work, just work on the ones that you know accept from everyone.

If you turn your secondaries in within a week (of AMCAS verification for those that accept secondaries from everyone, or within a week of secondary request for those that do not) you will be REALLY early. Getting done with everything by early August is a good goal and you will be on the track to getting tons of interviews!

Could I potentially begin working on secondaries now from schools which by default send them out? They don't change much from year to year, right?

Is there any risk to requesting transcripts from summer classes at other schools, etc., be sent in May? Do they keep them until your app is submitted?

Transcripts & MCAT Scores
  1. Missing, incomplete and unmatchable transcripts are the number one reason for processing delays.
To prevent these delays from occurring, applicants should use the AMCAS Transcript Request form, available within the AMCAS application, when requesting that official transcripts (OTs) be sent to AMCAS in support of their application. This form, which registrars submit to AMCAS alongside the requested OTs, includes the AAMC ID, the Alternate ID identified by the applicant as being used by the transcript-issuing institution, and other information helpful to the matching process.
  2. When are transcripts due?
AMCAS accepts transcripts starting on or about May 3. Transcripts are due 14 calendar days after the deadline date. For example, if School A's application deadline is October 15, their transcript deadline is October 29.
Exception: Transcripts in support of an Early Decision Program (EDP) application are due on August 1, the EDP application deadline.
  3. Can I send an official sealed copy of my transcripts?
AMCAS will not accept transcripts from applicants under any circumstances. Transcripts must arrive directly from the Registrar's office. Registrars should forward transcripts to: AMCAS, Attn: Transcripts AAMC Medical School Application Services, P.O. Box 57326, Washington, DC, 20037.

I have a question. I'm on the quarter system, and I was planning on sending my grades without spring quarter and just updating them later. Is that ok? (I won't get my grades until around June 18).

i have a question...

related differently from the AMCAS transcript request...

what if u're already accepted to a medical school...when do you send ur FINAL transcript to the school you're going to attend.
