Hi, I have received some interest from Roseman, Methodist, and Ponce St. Louis. Given these are all new schools which have not yet graduated their first classes (and therefore don’t have match lists), how should I try and differentiate between them? Of course I’m going to be thinking about my own preferences in terms of location etc but how can I actually research them to compare them academically/in terms of experience?

Please advise 🙁 thank you

Methodist is much newer than Roseman or Ponce St. Louis. For the latter two, they have admitted at least one class of students, so you should ask students about what worked and what didn't, knowing that faculty will adjust for what didn't work. For all cases, relationships with clinical sites are absolutely important as their exposure will set you up for your residency training. Others may chime in...

I'm just an MS2 but I would primarily look at cost of attendance. Second, I honestly don't think it matters how well the program teaches their students because everything you need to know to pass step 1 and 2 is adequately and almost always better taught by third party resources. Therefore I would focus on asking other students about how their exams were set up. Are the exams largely focused on material taught by faculty with little relevance to board material or are the exams largely aligned with third party step material so that you can just skip classes and focus on learning independently? Is there forced attendance?

I would look into this stuff more. But take my points of focus with a grain of salt.

COA seems pretty similar for all three schools (methodist is providing a 40k scholarship… but spread out over 4 years lol). I have been accepted to Roseman but am interviewing with Methodist next week so maybe I’m thinking about this too far in advance, but I’m in a weird place because I had kind of mentally prepared myself to go to Roseman and here is a new school an hour from my parents’ house lol. Unfortunately Methodist is brand new so no students to ask for, but those are def good questions to ask to Roseman students—thank you for your thoughts!! If I’m lucky I’ll get into my well established state school and not have to worry about all this 🤞 here’s to hoping!
