Hi,

I would like to know what happens when the 10 minute breaks expire during the real MCAT exam. (Does the next section begin automatically?)

I found some old posts about this issue but wanted to get some feedback from more recent exam administrations. 🙂

Thanks!

Yes, the next subject starts automatically...I know, it's a pain.

No they don't. There's a pop-up that says "Your time has expired." When you click OK it takes you to the intro page for the next section. When you click NEXT on that page, then the timer starts. I took it on 4/23 and got to my computer a bit late after one break because I got signed in late because the proctor was running around.

Just in case you needed a tie break vote 🙄 Pls is correct. The timer does not start automatically. What I don't know is if it gives you a little grace period and then starts. Basically my point is try to stay w/in the 10 minute limit but know that if you get held up for any reason attempting to get back in the room, you don't have to stress (but don't purposefully push the time limit either).

Yes, each section you need to start yourself by clicking next. It will not start automatically.

all of my 10 minute breaks went over by 10+ minutes. i took my sweet time snacking. it doesn't start without you! 👍

it will automatically start about 2 minutes after the 'your time has expired' screen comes up. So don't panic if you are a few seconds late from your 10 minute break, but don't take your sweet time either.

Who is correct?? I was wondering about the same thing in case i was running a little late from my break?

Does anyone know how long the grace period is, or at least is there anyone that recently took the MCAT that can vouch for a 15 minute break and the next section not starting without you? I just called AAMC and they said the next section will start without you and that if the section was 15 minutes long, and you took a 13 minute break rather than a 10 minute break, you will only have 12 minutes to complete the section.

I don't want to feel rushed to the point that I have to inhale my food while running to the bathroom. I need every second I can get with VR.
