So, as some of you may have known, I applied for a tech position in a medium sized hospital about 4 days ago. I haven't heard anything back from them yet, but I don't expect to until at least a week or so after the day I applied (at the earliest maybe 5 days from now). Anyway, I don't really have much experience applying to jobs, as my first application was where I am working now, but I will be leaving shortly due to starting undergrad. So, I was sort of wondering when it might be acceptable to call them about whether they received my application? I thought this might be a good way to show interest in the position if I didn't come off in a rude or annoying manner or anything. What department should I call, if any? HR? Is there anything else I should say when/if I do call?

Sorry for the rather odd question, just really interested in this opportunity and want to get my foot in the door, so to speak, haha. Thanks for any help and advice you can provide!

dont call - they will call you if interested - only call if you already know somebody as a sort of "heads up, I applied"

Some hospital systems have HR tracking tool where you can follow the progress of your application status. If you have insider you can connect with, perhaps an email.
The reason for the delay may be due to many reasons. If there are multiple openings, they may have rolling interview process. If only one opening is available, they have to wait until all applications are collected. Many have start and end date for job post. If you applied the first day the job opens, you may have to wait for 60 days where another person who applied toward the end hear something within a week. Communication between HR and department also take time. HR itself can be s usually clogged unless it is prioritized position.

Be patient, there is one time I heard from HR 4 months after I put in my application. I totally forgot about that and they gave me a mandated date and time for interview with no flexibilities or ability to change the slot. Take it or leave it, I was told.

Good Luck

Thank you all for the advice! I will stick it out and wait until they contact me. Here's hoping it is soon!

Fun fact. My husband applied internally for a step up position and got a factory style email saying they had chosen another candidate. Irked he wasn't called, he emailed the hiring manager to ask what skills/experiences he should acquire and the hiring manager called immediately and said the recruiter must have messed up because they still hadn't made a decision......
