When to do research after med 2?

I never really was able to get any real publications out during first 2 years of school, is there any time to get more research opportunities before applying for residencies in med 3, 4?

Some do research electives, which can result with a pub if your cards line up...then again, i guess this depends on when your school allows you to schedule electives.

Yah, I'm in the same boat. I need to get some research under my belt before residency applications and can't imagine trying to do that and 3rd year at the same time. I know making good grades and LOR are extremely important.
