I know this is a ways away, but I'm thinking about when to get an apartment for med school. I'm still not positive where I'm going, but me and a friend are planning on going to Europe this summer, probably leaving late May or the very first of June, and be gone for about 4 weeks, so we'll be back towrads the end of June. Now, assuming I would have to start middle of August or earlier, would the month of July be enough time to find a place? Or would I be able to find an apartment in May?

The reason I'm concerned about this now is my travel agent can get us an awesome deal if we book soon, and we pretty much have decided where we want to go, and we need the 4 weeks for this time. So thoughts? opinions? Should I scrap my possibly last chance to travel without being tied down to anything? Or should I try to convince someone (my parents) to find an apartment for me? Although I doubt they'll be too happy about this if I go somewhere far away since they both work.

i think july would be okay too. some apartments only require their renters to give a month or two's notice, so the landlord may only know the apartment is available that much in advance.

also, if you find an apartment in may, they may want your security deposit, and rent starting within the month or so, so you'd be paying while you're in europe.

i'm hoping to head to europe before the fall too (granted i get an acceptance!), so congrats and have fun! i don't think you've got too much too worry about.
