I've been reading through this forum and I'm not sure exactly sure what the general consensus is.

When do you re-take a class from undergrad and when do you just accept the grades and find other ways to improve your apps (e.g. higher MCAT)?

For example, if I got a B+ in Physics I, but C- in Physics II... should I re-take both or just Physics II or neither and just focus on kicking ass on the physical science section of the MCAT?

Thanks.

Med schools require at least a C, so the C- in Physics II you would need to retake to get a C or better. That's the general rule. No sense retaking a perfectly decent score of B+ in Physics I.

I don't know once someone is accepted to a med school if they will make a concession on something like that on a case-by-case basis, but med schools require C or better in the prerequisites for them to count.

You don't need to retake a C-. It's the same as a C or a C+

Ok - sorry!!! I didn't realize C- was the same as C. Makes sense since some schools only dish out A,B,C and no +/-, so you shouldn't penalize the students from schools that are more specific within the letter grade range I guess.

Ok here I go. I am currently a ANRP but I really want to be an MD. I did some very pretty dumb things when I was younger and failed out of college. So my GPA isn't the best. The last GPA I saw was for my graduate degree and I ended with a 3.8 but I dont think it included my associate degree that was med at best. When I completed my BSN I got one C in some social science class. I need to do premed classes I know I got a C in chemistry should I retake it. Any thoughts on what I can do to be able to show I camn suceed:scared: in med school?

Contact all of your undergraduate institutions and request unofficial transcripts. Sit down with an excel spreadsheet and calculate your uGPA. (Graduate GPA is does not count towards medical school admissions and is looked upon like an extracurricular except SMPs) Once you know what you uGPA is, you can then figure out what you have to do to get yourself into competitive range. The average uGPA for matriculants into medical school is around 3.6. See how close you are once you have taken the pre-med courses and go from there.

I think it depends on the school. I believe there are some schools that allow you to take 1 semester of orgo and 1 semester of bio chem (instead of 2 semesters of orgo). I'd contact the individual schools you are applying to and get the information directly from them. My guess is that some schools will not accept this.
