When to send letter of interest?

I applied around mid July and the verified most of my individual applications by end of July. I still have not heard back from the schools I applied to other than NYU, (and i am really worried about the debt for NYU). Would now be a good time to send letter of interests? I know most people think it's useless but I was wondering if it would still be worth a shot.
