hi - i take my exam on june 21st. i just started my kaplan course four days ago and will finish on june 4th. my question is this: is it advisable to hold off on doing qbank until i'm done with the kaplan course or start now? i've already used 15% of my qbank questions and i'm afraid i'm going to run out (especially if i do subject targeted tests each day). can i use book-based questions (q-book, etc) until i'm done with the course and then start up again?

also - i'm getting around a 50% on qbank. will i be able to raise it to a 60% by test time? i'm so scared of failing. 🙁

thanks all

this is what i did..my test is on june 15th. so iwaited to buy the 1 month qbank until last sat which was may15..that way i would have one month and it would run out the day before in case i needed up and until test day. It might be good to take a few days and get some solid studying in then do some questions to test yourself..the kaplan peeps tell us that doing questions is no good without the study before hand( im sure you knew that)..
i save my qbank for general questions and i use my qbook after we finish a topic in kaplan.

just my 2 cents

good luck on your test

Are you allowed to go through QBank again after you've finished it once?

this is assuming you still have time left on your subscription.

why do you just want to raise it up to 60%? isnt that barely passing?

ummmm - i would love to be hitting a 70%. but i don't know if that is possible.... so i guess that's why i "just" want to raise to 60%.

Yes, you can go through it as many times as you want (although you'll barely have time as 2000 questions is quite a lot), plus you'll get sick of questions about coarcation of the aorta and the proper thing to say to your patient.

Thanks. I agree. But I learn well from questions, and it seems that people who do well on QBank do well on Step 1 (with exceptions of course). So I think being able to answer most of the questions correctly should increase Step 1 success.

sorry in advance for hijacking this thread.

I was wondering if someone could give me advice as to whether or not my plan of attack is a good one. I figured I would read the brs books and first aid before doing all of the qbank questions that pertain to that topic(i.e. read all about endocrinology before attempting to do qbank questions). I am a bit unsure as to whether or not the aforementioned is a good idea since I often read that people choose to randomize their questions. I'm not sure how good of an idea this is for me since I am JUST beginning to study for step I (I've literally studied a half hour for the damn thing at this point). Anyhow, I figured that I would start doing random blocks as the test got closer since I'll have done a great deal of preparing by then.

Any suggestions for a very scared SDNer 😱 😱 😱
June 26th is the big day :scared: :scared: :scared:

The problem is that you'll run out of questions in a particular area and your random blocks won't be random anymore. I would just do random blocks from the beginning.

But I think these are people that do well on QBamk the first time through because these people know their stuff already. Going through QBank more than once seems like a waste of time to me..I would go through First Aid several times instead....much higher yield and everyone, yes everone, (even Stinger who seems to hate QBank with a passion) agrees that First Aid is key.

I agree. If you were decent in your year two path/pathophys, there is no reason not to do the random 50Qs per night. You initial scores might not be so encouraging because you can not remember some details, but who cares? If you keep improving (you should because you study more), you'll be fine.
