Hi all, lots of LOR questions. Couldn't find answers to them while searching forums.

What is the news about some schools using AACOMAS now to directly send letters to schools? How does it work?

Where is the printed information about Interfolio sending letters to all schools vs. using Interfolio to send letters individually to each school?

When should the letter be sent to the school?
For example, since applications can be submitted June 1, do I send the letters to schools through Interfolio on June 1? Or can they be sent later in the summer? Are they sent with secondaries?

When does a school view the application? Is it considered "incomplete" and not reviewed until the school has received all of the required letters of recommendation?

I was trying to have all of my recommenders send their letters to Interfolio by late May, but I may not be able to have the DO letter until later in the summertime. Will my entire application be put on hold until I have that DO letter?

Thanks for the help.

Sorry I did some more sleuthing, it looks like most schools take the LORs with a secondary submission and that was my main question

Admissions start reviewing your file only after all your documents have been received (LORs + AACOMAS primary + application fee + secondary applications). This is why Interfolio is recommended since your LORs would be sent electronically to each school and thereby avoiding delay. AACOMAS is making a change to the LOR, however, by incorporating it into the primary application. Not sure how it works but it may save some hassle without having to coordinate sending LORs yourself.

The general application timeline is as follow: submit AACOMAS primary (June 1st) --> verified in 4 weeks or less (late June or early July) --> primary released to schools after a few days of verification --> schools review your primary and invite you to fill out your secondary (usually 1 to 2 weeks after primary verified). From that point, if it takes you one week to fill out each secondary and send out the LORs, your application should be completed by late July to early August, at which point the schools will start inviting you for interviews. You could theoretically get your first acceptance by September or even earlier, pending on your GPAs/MCAT, ECs, and interview performance.

Thank you for the information! I was beginning to understand things after reading the AACOMAS instructions and this clarified it for me as well.
