When to Submit LORs

I seached the forums and didn't find my answer. When do you send out LORs? I am understanding that you will send them to the individual schools once you submit them your secondary, and that AMCAS has nothing to do with LORs. Is that correct? I am preparing a listing of things I want my letter writers to know and want to make sure I give them ample time to complete a good letter.

You had better get your profs to start writing those letters tomorrow. Profs are notorious for taking forever to get them done and in. Tracking down profs during the summertime can be a huge huge hassle. Don't let waiting on your letters hold up your whole application process or you will start tearing out your hair...
