First time thought I need to ask something on SDN so signed up!

My Step 1 score is just above average for US MD students, I am a student at a well ranked US medical school and I have good application with publications and experiences. I will apply this year for a specialty that usually does not need Step 2 CK scores. It is also a specialty with a Step 1 mean score 7 points higher than my score.

If I get a great Step 2 CK score I want programs to know early on. If not I need not release Step 2 scores. So I want to take CK early but not too early. If I have a CK score before submission the score will automatically be released to programs, so I surely don't want to have a score before submission. Also, I will be applying only to about 20-30 mid-range programs in our geographic area, and I won't be picky.

ERAS can be submitted earliest on September 6th, programs can open applications earliest on September 15th.

If I take CK in late August, about a week before submission on September 6th, will the programs see that I took CK, and can ask me about my CK scores before or during interviews? Also, could CK scores be released automatically if CK was taken before submission?

Same questions arise if I take CK between September 6th and September 15th, or if I take CK after September 15th

Also still unclear to me- this is for everyone not just me- should we submit on September 6th or September 15th? Any pros or cons?

Submitting on sep 6 vs. 15 makes no difference, the purpose behind it is to prevent the server from crashing like it did a few years ago. So submitting september 6 = september 15. as far as you rother question goes, i'm not sure
