Hey guys! I'm applying this cycle, and I wanted to know when to schedule my DAT to still be considered "early" in the cycle. I got accepted into a test preparation program at the nearest dental school, and this will run from June 4th-July 31st. For obvious reasons, I don't want to register for the exam before July 31st, so I was thinking Aug 5th since that is the next available date. Will this be too late of a test date?

@artist2022 took it in August I believe but she had very high stats.

If you take it then you still have a good chance but it will depend on your numbers and how good your overall application is. August is peak time and the verification process for your DAT may take a while and your application will be considered complete end of August/early September.

It's almost always better to push it back a week to get a higher score, an extra week won't hurt you.

I took it 8/9/2017 and I was really worried about being late in the cycle. I think my stats (25AA/24TS) helped me stand out, along with everything else that was on my app. It can get really tricky, but August is no longer considered "early" imo, because it'll take time for your scores to become official, and another few days for it to get posted to your AADSAS application.

If you do it the first week of August and have everything else submitted in AADSAS, you'll be submitting it on time. Neither early nor late. If your application is submitted, it can start the transcript verification process so that once your DAT scores are verified, schools already have everything and can review your application.

That’s pretty late. To be “early” you should take it mid June to the first week of July.

Artist took her dat in August but I wouldn’t advise copying her. She had a 3.98 and a 25aa so realistically she was going to get in everywhere anyway.

I took it in September and applied in late October.

What about taking the DAT in early July? And submit the application by mid July? I was going to take the DAT in mid-June, but now I feel like I want a couple more weeks of practice lol

That's perfectly fine - I would consider that in the middle of early and late, so it works 😀 Postponing for a week or two to bump your scores up by even a few points is the best thing you can do - Good luck!

AS long as you apply early, you can take the DAT end of August and still be fine.

Just to let you know, I retook my DAT in October and got into 5 schools. So, just make sure you do a good enough job in the exam.
