When to take the DAT?

Hey guys, I tried searching but I don't know of an efficient search topic to find the answer. I am currently attending UT Austin right now and am currently a Sophomore there and was wondering when I should be taking the DAT. Also, are there any suggested classes that I should take that would prepare me or anything. I am the first in my family to attend college and really am not that experienced or know much at all about the path to becoming a dentist/orthodontist. Thank you for your help.

There's a DAT sub forum where you can find a great deal of info if you do a little search.

I'd say take it whenever you are ready!

I would recommend not taking it any later than August.

They offer the test almost everyday. Wait until you have completed all your o-chem... physiology would help too. Don't waste your money on the Kaplan course. Bye their study book and practice for the PAT until you cry.

May I ask what the PAT is? And thank you for the suggestion of not taking the Kaplan class. I thought the class seemed very expensive. I will now just rather buy their books. What I was wondering was when do people typically take their DAT and apply into schools. Do you take the DAT after your sophomore year, or during junior year of college?
