Okay, so I've been getting everything together to apply for podiatry school this fall. I'm a little unclear as to when to take the MCAT. On a few threads that I read I heard a few people say that they took their MCATs in Janurary and got an interview the day after they recieved the scores. I'm under the impression from the aacpm website and school websites that there is a MCAT deadline varying from May 31st to mid-july. Let me know what you all think.

The date to take the MCAT is mostly dependent upon you, your readiness, etc. Before the school's suggested last MCAT test day or deadline may give you a shot for this fall. Things may have changed since January since the priority deadlines have passed for most schools. Call the schools admissions office about this.

If I were you, I would take the MCAT in August or September and apply the first week in September. Then its done and you won't have to worry about balancing school/work/interviews/ MCAT studying. You can take it as late as May through July (of 2010), but if you don't do so well you are SOL and have no chance of retaking it for the 2014 cycle.

Okay, so let me get this straight, because they are not very clear about it on the websites for each school; The deadlines for the MCATs posted on the website are for the year that you would be entering in the fall. For example, the deadline for May 31st 2009 is for those entering students for Fall 2009. They do not make this clear, nor does this make much sense because most admissions cycles end long before these dates. Awesome information though. I will check the school just to be sure, I'm also going to reschedule my MCAT!

Podiatry schools use a rolling admission as opposed to a set-deadline that MD/DO/Dental schools use. You could theoretically take your MCAT in late May, apply, and get accepted (with scholarship!) but that all depends on how many seats are left in the class at that point. Take your MCAT as soon as possible (this summer) and apply early [September]. No worries!
