During the limbo between waiting for AMCAS verification and being transmitted to medical schools, I have begun pre-writing my secondaries. I've noticed a lot of discussion of diversity essays, and how to write them. I am however, not sure when to use my diversity essay. There are a significant amount of secondary prompts that are along the lines of "how do you plan on contributing to our institution". Are these a polite way of asking for a diversity essay? So far for these, I have been writing about how my experiences fit in with the specific school's mission statement, since they did not outright ask for a diversity essay. Basically, my question is will a secondary essay specifically ask for a diversity essay? Is my current approach wrong? Should I be more focused on my upbringing/ challenges for these types of prompts? (non URM but from a rural area).
