I'm going to NYUCD in the fall, and am applying for a 4 year HPSP with the Navy and AF. When will I do my first PRT? During ODS? Before commissioning? I'm confused. My Navy recruiter is kind of giving me the run around on this. She said one thing and now another. I am well within the weight requirements for my height, I'm just a little out of shape and want to know how long I have to prepare. Thanks!

if you're talking about Physical Readiness Test, you need to take them before they can submit your application packet. You need to take and pass the physical before you can even apply so most people do it while they are first meeting with their recruiter and filling out their application packet.
I would try to ask your AF recruiter if your Navy recruiter does not know what he/she is talking about.

I have already done the physical at MEPS in Dallas for the AF. Now I'm just waiting to see what the board results were. I'm also finishing up my app with the Navy. The test I'm curious about is the one where you have to do the 1.5 mile run, push-ups, and sit-ups. I think it is called a physical readiness test (prt), but is different than the physical done at MEPS. Can anyone clear me up on this? I'm anxious to know when I will do my first athletic test for both the AF and Navy.

I too am interested in the answer to this question. I have been preselected for the Navy HPSP and my packet is with the board right now for final selection :xf:. I know there were a few things I had to do at my MEPs physical like lat pull-downs with some weight I do not remember, but I thought that was all the physical testing required until ODS. I had not heard nor found anywhere anything about any 1.5mi run with pushups and the such as being a prerequisite to getting your packet sent to the board for final selection for the HPSP.

Okay... I finally got an answer. In the Navy, the first time that we will have to do the test (consisting of a 1.5 run, push-ups, and sit-ups) will be at ODS, and then every 6 months from then on. I won't go to ODS until after dental school, so I have plenty of time to prepare!!! Good news!!!
