I read through this thread back when I was in the midst of applications. It was so inspiring and got me all excited reading everyone's stories. I'm happy to be able to post here
😀.
It was towards the end of interview season. I thought my first interview had gone so well and was shocked when I was rejected, so I was pretty depressed about it. When I got a second interview, I was determined not to get my hopes up again. The faculty interview portion was really strange, so I was sure I was going to be waitlisted or rejected.
I was pretty down about the application process one day, convinced I was going to have to reapply (and retake the MCAT) and started thinking of backup options. The next day, I had barely woken up when my phone rings. When I answered the phone, I immediately knew it was the dean of admissions (she has a very distinct voice) and my heart started pounding.
Dean: "Is this [my name]?"
Me: "YESSSSS!" (barely containing my excitement)
Dean: "I'm the Dean of.... (don't even remember what she said, I was too excited)... Congratu-"
Me: "OMG THANK YOUUUUUU" (practically screaming)
Dean: "-lations!"
She laughed, and told me my acceptance letter is in the mail. After I hung up, I couldn't stop shaking and the tears were streaming down my face. I tried to start calling friends and family, but no one was picking up the phone! I was home alone (my roommate was out), so I was jumping around my apartment, ready to explode if I kept this news to myself a moment longer. I was considering running outside to tell a stranger, when everybody started calling me back at the same time. I spent the rest of the night on the phone spreading the good news
🙂.
Everyone thought it was weird that I received my acceptance via phone call on a Sunday afternoon.
They were starting to convince me it was a prank call. So I didn't fully believe it until I got my acceptance letter in the mail a few days later
