with black friday soon approaching, i was starting to wonder what laptop/tablet pc to get for med school
but i figured i'll wait since some schools give laptops/tablet pc (DMU)

A new laptop would be nice, but rather than rush out for a deal, I'd get a decked out on with some online coupons via Fatwallet or Slickdeals. I kind of wish Syncope was still around because he always had the lowdown on this.

Are there any programs I need for med school that would prevent me from using my powerbook?

Some schools are mac friendly while others are not. Most of the schools I have visited have stuff that is online so I think with the right plug-ins we should be fine.

Anyone know which schools are not mac-friendly?

CCOM students said that Macs couldn't even get on their wireless network. However this made no sense to me, unless they had an in-house firewall/VPN type of access portal that was a Windows only program. However, even in that case, you could just install Windows, provided you have an Intel Mac.

I recently switch my wireless router to a newer and more expensive one. As a result my sis's mac laptop won't connect. I had to find a firmware update just for mac compatibility. If your school runs on an old firmware, you may have some problems connecting wirelessly. I'm not sure if the problem is in the OS or the wireless hardware that mac uses.

BTW they are coming out with a whole new intel processor, the i7, in 2009 which is supposed to be alot faster than the current ones.
