Senior at University of Massachusetts Amherst, Microbiology Major

3.59 GPA, strong upward trend (3.9 since beginning of junior year).

DAT: AA/TS/BIO/GC/OC/PAT/RC/QR: 20/21/21/22/19/19/17

Research: 3 semesters, and full time last summer, Biochemical Tuberculosis Research lab on campus

Teaching assistant for a microbiology for nurses lab course

50-75 hours shadowing

3-4 Excellent letters of recommendation

I will be applying the first day applications can be sent out.

How do you guys like my odds? Any suggestions on where to apply?

Good! Get more shadowing hours (100ish or more totally) and you're good to go. Do you have volunteering hours too?

I just realized something, I have the same TS scores as you but only got a 20. BIO/GC/OC 19/22/21 for me. Do they weigh BIO more heavily than the other two?

TS depends on how many questions you get correct out of the 100 in that section, it is not an average of the subsections.

I have some volunteer work, but not much. I volunteered at a soccer tournament for kids. I found it hard to balance working on research and studying for the dat/shadowing to include any volunteer work. Is this gonna hurt me?
