As far as interviews go, I don't know yet.

So far everyone is applying to at least one program in my favorite state 🙂.

Oh, don't break my heart and say it!

Why would that break your heart?

Nope, sorry IbnSina, but "I'm a Tarheel born and Tarheel bred, and when I die I'll be Tarheel dead!"

I too think this will be an interesting thread. I will contribute as soon as I have my list!

Applying to just about everywhere. But based on my rotation, I really liked the people (residents, attendings, nurses, ancillary staff) at Maimonides.

And dead you will be. Because I'm a tiger through and through. Clemson will own the division this year.

applied to way too many programs and now I am dirt po' and have to smuggle nasty food out of the hospital cafeteria just so I can get a calorie. 🙁

great thread! I look forward to seeing where else you all are applying, and hopefully meeting some of you at interviews.

For me, it's mainly programs in Cali (pretty much every program), NYC (NY Presbyterian, NYU, Einstein), Baltimore/DC (Hopkins, Maryland, GWU), and Boston (B&M, Beth Israel, BU). You can tell I'm ready to get out of the midwest! 🙂

30 programs, mostly east coast and midwest, all university. FMG so spreading my net far

Sheesh, there are usually a few SLR applicants on this thread! 😀

Best of luck to you all.

So cute- and here I thought you had become a transplanted new yorker like me... 😉

This place is like a fungus. It grows on you whether you want it to or not.

As I explained to Appollyon in a PM: NC will always hold a special place in my heart because it's the first place I lived independently of my parents and proved that I could "make it" on my own.

With that said, I'm not convinced there's a better place to get EM training than NY.

Unless the person reading this is a PD elsewhere, in which case I also include your state in that list 🙂.

I'm galled!

(I will NOT say what I wrote in MY PM!)

Why are you galled?

Give me a little credit - I know better than to repeat the contents of someone ELSE'S PM!!

Hi there:

Still have to bicker a little about some of these with my couples match partner, but:
Maine, Boston (all the Harvard hospitals), UMass, UConn, Yale, Albany, Rochester, SUNY Stony Brook, Penn State, York, Christiana, Hopkins, Maryland, GW, U.Va, Vanderbilt, U. Mich, Mayo (Mayo love!), UNC, Duke, Wake Forest, U. of Florida/Gainesville, Jacksonville.

I'll keep you posted about interviews!

Haven't finished my PS yet, but so far the list is looking like pitt, unc, wake forest, carolinas, gw, georgetown, md, hopkins, tennessee, denver, and many, many more. my first goal is to finish that damn PS today, then figure out exactly where i want to apply. all i know for certain is that it's going to be a very long list...

Applying to about 30 programs. Will list when I finally cut the list, but represented cities/states include: California, NYC, Boston, Philly, Chicago, and DC/Baltimore

Edit: Oh yeah...I forgot AZ on that list.

How come I don't see NYC on that list??? 😡

😉 😎

No worries, Roja. NYC will be on the list, just haven't figured out which programs I'm applying to yet. Unfortunately, my excuse for making frequent trips up to NYC has moved to VA, and while this saves me a lot of money it's not nearly as fun to visit. Feel free to offer suggestions on where to apply!

And of course I'll let you know when/if I get interviews up there. 😀

Another Carolina girl potentially in NYC? Good - this city needs more of us! To be fair, I wasn't actually born in NC, but I got there as soon as I could!

Cincinnati, Indiana, CWRU/MetroHealth, Michigan, Penn, UNC, Carolinas to name a few.

Just thought I would throw this out there for all you aspiring female ED docs. I rotated through Jacksonville ED program and I have never been so taken aback by the lack of professionalism by the faculty. In particular, I overheard a some inappropriate advances made by a male faculty member in a position of authority. I never would have expected this from this person, but it made me very uneasy and I now question whether or not I am going to apply for residency there. I thought that this kind of stuff only happened on TV. I just wanted to warn all my female friends, but check it out for yourself.

 Only 3 people have posted where they are applying! Not many people want to live in the tundra.

Still no Mayo love, and it is not the tundra. Personally if you are looking for an incredible place to train with top notch faculty both inside and outside the department with a flight program (residents as crew - not observers) at a top of the line physical plant, look here.

BTW - We ahve seasons not tundra. I'm from Chicago and the winters are no worse here then they were there. Perhaps better as the locals are really equipped for winter.

Relax, I was joking! Geesh!

Wow, were you really at MY Jax??? As a recent female grad, I can't imagine any Grey's Anatomy type scenes or inappropriate advances from "Higher ups" First, all of the residency directors/assoc etc are all happily married and sometimes I wondered if we girls didn't scare our poor PD some days. That being said, it is a pretty laid back residency and there's always lots of joking and just like these threads, sometimes the conversation can deteriorate to the borders (maybe just over the line?) of appropriateness amongst friends. I assure you I am not aware of any female resident who was made to feel uncomfortable by advances that you mention--I hope what you witnessed was just some kind of misunderstanding.

The female faculty includes some great mentors as well...very active in ACEP, even got me elected as an officer of an ACEP committee. I assure you that I had an excellent experience as a female resident in JAX. I had nothing but support in my personal interests in international medicine and setting up an international rotation, pursuit of fellowship, some disaster deployments with FEMA. JAX has a lot to offer including really sick patients...so many sometimes you're literally tripping over them...but that gives you lots and lots of procedures, intubations, traumas, all that stuff everyone is excited about. Please don't let one post make up your mind, check it out for yourself. It's not for everyone...you have to be motivated to read on your own and jump into a busy clinical place but you'll come out a really strong MD or DO...and it's one of only a few EM residencies where you can live at the beach. GIVE JAX A CHANCE!

"All we are saying is give peace a chance"

I think the picture you paint is pretty accurate except for a few of the faculty. All I can say is that on more than one occasion I felt uneasy around a couple of the faculty members. I may be a dumb blond, but there was no mistaking what I witnessed. And from what one of the residents told me, it sounds like a television soap opera with apparently some faculty members not so happily married and are looking elsewhere. But you are right, make up your own mind and I am still debating whether or not it is worth trying to interview there. Pluses-pt volume, great residents, most teaching, the beach; Neg-uneasy/uncomfortable feelings, lack of integrity/morality by couple of the faculty. I just thought it important to give everyone all the info.

I rotated through JAX as well in 4th year. Very professional residents, and decent faculty. There were a couple of females rotating with me who did not have problems. JAX was my first choice (well second after Indiana), and unless it's changed in the last year I would still recommend it for those interested in a good county program.

How many programs is to many? Right now I have 52 programs selected; all the programs are spread out geographically. I have good third years grades, two strong letters and one fairly strong but my board scores are on the crappy side (COMLEX is better then USMLE). I figure if 20% of the programs interview me then I should match. Maybe I am just being a little over-zealous.

No Mayo love? Sheesh...

- H

Gave some mayo love, applied to about 28 programs thus far, pretty much all over the map east/west coast, mountains, midwest, south, etc. Now I just hold my breath until LOR come in...

I'm more or less applying to the same areas as IbnSina, plus a few programs here or there (Pitt, the Boston programs, maybe Denver and Maine).

We'll see where I actually get an interveiw.....

Ohio: Akron/Akron, OSU . . .
SC: Charleston, Columbia
Texas: El Paso, Houston, Dallas
Geogia: Atlanta, Augusta

Kalamazoo and Peoria. Both are great programs, with excellent training but not well known.

Best of Luck Everyone!!

for all you applying to Philly-Baltimore-DC, don't forget Christiana in Delaware. Awesome program, great pathology, and Wilmington is a nice place that is convenient to everywhere. A lot of people commute from philly if you want to live in a bigger city.....
