ok, i'm officially coming out of lurk mode...i've been having too much fun just reading posts, and then it finally dawned on me that actual participation (gasps) would bring me overwhelming joy and may give purpose to my life.... congratulate me -- i guess i'm officially out of the closet...

anyway...i've been trying to rifle through posts to figure out where people actually are (i.e. residencies, rotations, etc). i think it might be helpful to everyone applying to programs this year to have this information in one thread...this way, when questions arise about a particular residnecy program and we are interested in the down-low, instead of having a million posts entitled "what do you know about university of blahblahblah", we have something to start with....

Welcome lurker! I lurked for about 3 days before I got fed up and decided to start posting.

In terms of people telling you where they are, many guard their anonymity like a CIA informant. They won't even admit the city. So, I am sure some people will tell you where they are but many will not respond, so don't take it personal. It is a reasonable choice, after all. I, on the other hand, simply don't really care and people seem to get a kick out of knowing where I am.

There will probably be some new folks around, as interview season is almost underway. I encourage your participation and enjoyment in our humble little world.

Plus, many people hang around here as "invisible." Thus, you can't see when they're on line. (Stalkers are everywhere!). I can see them, however, as I have a magic decoder ring (that red cross under my name). I see you all.

As I am in the process of applying to pathology programs, I like the security provided by the relative anonymity on these forums. But from my previous posts, I've "leaked" out some things about myself...such as the fact that I'm an MSTP student at U of Michigan (this kinda narrows things down of course as there aren't TOO many of us "mudphuds" at U of M). 😉

Of course, AFTER I match, I won't feel any hesitation in terms of posting more personal information such as name, picture, birthdate/birthplace, address, the name of my brother's father's sister's son's former roommate, etc. 😀

Here's my essentially useless post: The U of Calgary has an excellent growing program in straight AP only which I would not mind matching to... 😉 Although it doesn't have those frills like picking up your dry-cleaning bill and etc.

Penn MudPhud - oldest/baldest/most prolific (kids-wise)/cynical-est/happiest one here (Penn), I recon.

I think quite highly of the program here, but there are certain idiot-syncracies. . . . err, you know what I mean. Happy to entertain specific questions 'bout Penn, if anyone has them. No promises that I can answer, but I'll give my MS VIII perspective. 😉

Ah...a fellow mudphud or MSTP (pronounced messed-up) person...I salute you 👍

One of the guys in our MSTP program matched at U Penn this year. From what I remember he was very happy with his choice. If they offer me an interview, I'll probably shoot you a PM with specific questions 🙂

I mostly just lurk, letting Andy, Yaah and others delight us with their wit and weirdness, but I'm from UArizona and would love to go drinking with anyone who comes to interview there. Oh, and I guess if anyone is curious about the program there, I did a PSF year and could let you in on some secrets.

Any CA people? Like most stupid Americans, I love the idea of moving to a place that is overcrowded and overpriced (I'm not being facetious). I mean there has to be a reason so many people live there. I have done rotations this year at UCIrvine and LAC/Harbor and will do one at UCSD in another month.

Harbor and UCI are worthless, why would you rotate there?? Ramzi at UCI is only person of note and the guy can cop a serious attitude at times. SD is good because of only one person: Weidner.

All my rotations this year are mainly for fun--I can get out of Tucson and go live somewhere else for a month. I thought UCI was OK, Ramzy seemed quiet when I was there (no attitude) and Lin did a lot of the teaching, which I thought was one of the strong points with an unknown conference every day of the week.

Harbor was kind of a mixup: I had intended to do UCLA Med Center rotation, but only the only surgical pathology rotation that UCLA medical school offers is through Harbor, although I found out later by special request you can do one at UCLA Med Center.

I heard Weidner was good: one of the residents from UArizona looked at a surg path fellowship there and encouraged me to apply there. But even if the rotation sucks, living in SD for a month is better than living in Tucson.

Hey LaDoc, I've noticed during my extensive lurking that you are one of the seasoned vets here and you (obviously) have some insight into the CA programs...so would you mind sharing a few pearls with a poor naive soul who just applied to those two programs? 😉 What are their drawbacks?
