Hey gang,
I heard that a real Human skull is very practical to have for Anatomy of the head, and to visualize the different cranial nerves. Where can I get one?

XOXO
Carrie

your school will probably have a bunch of them. otherwise, use your brothers.

That's what brothers are for. :meanie:

im sure you can think of something that will do up in that little head of yours.

Usually you'll want to find a drifter or someone else without ties to many people. The longer you have your head before someone notices it is missing, the better your chances of keeping it.

I knew this one guy named Yorick. He was a pretty funny. 😉

..try India, I hear they have clearance prices on Kidneys too.

lol, uh...yeah...this seems llike good advice... 🙄 😛

Geez, I wouldnt go through all that trouble. I mean, its just a few bones so why shouldn't a model skull be just as good?
It'd probably be really expensive to get your own human skull. They have to clean it, preserve it, make sure the pieces are fit together right, yahda yahda.

I have a mother-in-law I'll sell you real cheap.

Not only that, but not everyone is built "right". Remember, there's no "normal", only "normal range".

For example, in the skull, the spenoid emissary foramen is inconsistent - not everyyone has it, or has it bilaterally. Occasionally the foramen ovale will carry the lesser petrosal nerve, in others it's in it's own hiatus posteriorly. So, getting a model is not only cheaper, it has all the optional bits and pieces.

naughty girl lol
I guess school should be providing that

We had "bone boxes" that could be checked out of the equipment room. A real skull is definitely more useful for understanding some of the intricacies of the skull. However, be sure to look at more than one skull - it is amazing how different they are. Also some of the more fragile bones can be damaged. If you have only found the various foreman on a single skull, you may have difficulty landmarking on the practical exam.

ah yorick. i knew him well.
I hear Horatio and Yorick used to be best friends, that is until Yorick found out Horatio was sleeping with his twin sister. Of course, Horatio thought that it was really Yorick he was sleeping with after Yorick had gone to Sweden for a sex-change, but Yorick wouldn't believe him and now they hate each other. 🙁

Sorry, Days of our Skulls used to be my favourite show... 😳

hmm, you should ask your anatomy instructor about that. are you really naughty, naughty girl? 😉

I hear that medical students steal skulls and mummies as pranks, but don't suggest it. You may be stuck writing an "I admit I've done wrong and learned from past mistakes" essay or much worse.

As for legal ways, try local hospital museums, and ask professors.

That's so bizarre. It showed up at the top of a list for me.

Edit: Ugh. Was probably a similar threads list to one I was on. Never clicking anything on there again!
