Where Do I Go From Here?

I just wanted to know for applicants who didn't scramble into a position this year, where do we go from here? Is there anything we can or should be doing to let our applications be known to PDs, just in case someone backs out?
I'll be graduate at a US allopathic school and have a confirmed PGY-2 position in PM&R residency for 2009. I'm just looking for a prelim year in medicine or surgery so that I don't lose that residency spot. Any advice would be helpful.

You should immediately contact both your home school and your PM+R programs IM/GS/TY/FM/OB PDs as well as your dean and your PM+R PD to tell them that you NEED a prelim year now so you don't lose your advanced spot. If you already did that and still got nothing then...I got nothing.

I think there are still prelim surgery spots around. I would check the unfilled list and just start from the top calling every program. If that fails I'm wondering if you just couldn't approach an unfilled FM or even IM program let them know of your situation and see if they would be willing to take you on for a year.

Yeah I did all those things above. Apparently, I can't do FM as a prelim year according to my PM&R residency. It clearly states I have to do a trans/prelim in either IM or Surg. I called many of the categorical IM residencies and they're looking for applicants who can fill the 3 year commitment. Maybe I'll call again if they get real desperate. As for the available "unfilled" spots, I've already tried contacting them - with no real response and I'm pretty sure they are just finalizing with the applications that they have .
