Do they have to make a copy of the LOR they wrote for me, and mail it in to each of the individual schools to which I am applying?

Or do they send them to AMCAS (if this is the case, how does AMCAS deal with LOR's for a student once they receive them)?

Amcas has a LOR service that your profs will send the LOR. It will open up next month when the primary becomes available. I suggest getting an interfolio account and getting your letters now (then forward them to AMCAS yourself). You don't want to be stressing on your writers sending in the letters on time. Why put off until tomorrow what you can get done today.

I appreciate the response.

Do ALL schools accept LOR's from AMCAS? Do any require LOR's be mailed directly to the school?

And is there a way to verify that AMCAS has received all 3 LOR's? And, once they receive them, do they simply hang on to them until you finalize your primary application (ie, if your LOR's get there in the first week of June, but you don't submit your AMCAS application until the end of July)?

Edit - Thanks for the FAQ, that was helpful. But how do I find out if the schools to which I want to apply use this system?

No, some schools don't use the AMCAS LOR service (which is another reason to use interfolio), but most schools do. Once your LOR are on amcas they are saved for the entire cycle. You will see them listed and be able to forward them to each school electronically.

Just google AMCAS LOR service to find more info about which schools participate (I thought it was in FAQ).

Hi,
I am pretty new to this forum and I am also very confused about this. I didn't want to start a new thread about it but, does this also apply for TMDSAS?

So, you are saying that its better to have your profs send the letters ahead of time to TMDSAS and AMCAS, even though the primary has not opened? Like, nothing will happen to the letters they just hold on to them while you fill out the primary application and once you submit the primary it will be verified with your letters?😕

I don't know about TMDSAS, but Amcas will open in May. After it opens you can send your letters to Amcas. Then you submit your primary in June. However, if you get an interfolio account you can get your letters now and store them on interfolio. Then you can send them anywhere you want, whenever you want.
