Hi, can anyone please tell me where I stand?
I am currently a senior at my university. I'll be graduating in the Fall 2014 with a BS in Kinesiology. However, I've been discouraged with the grades that I have, that I won't get into PT school. I am very concerned because I have talked to a friend about his application and he got rejected. I'm primarily interested in applying to schools in TX but I don't think I really stand a chance. Unforunately, I don't really have any rotation hours except about 20 hours but I did other type of volunteer hours.
I went to community college for my year of college and did a few of my pre-reqs there. The grades I received were:
Bio I/Lab: A
Chem I/Lab: B
Bio II/Lab: A
Chem II/Lab: C
College Alg: A
Stat: A
Physics I/Lab: A
Then I transferred to a university and received the following grades:
A&P I: C
A&P Lab: B-
Precal: A-
A&P II: C
A&P II Lab: C-
Physics II: B-
Physics II Lab: Taking in the Spring
My current overall GPA right now is a 3.123
Is there any suggestions or advice anyone can recommend for me please? Please give me the honest truth as I'd like to know how I can improve myself. I plan to apply to PT school in the summer and hopefully have applications submitted before I start school again in late August.
-Thank you very much!- 🙂

Honestly I would not waste your money applying until you have above a C in your science classes. The first time I applied I had three C's , two in chemistry and one in statistics. I end up taking my chems over and got A's. I got accepted this time around.

I also took my GRE over. Take time now and work on improving your vocabulary.

Most schools don't accept any grades below a C, you need to retake A&P2 lab at the minimum. I'd retake both A&P 1 and 2 asap, preferably this spring and/or summer, and chem 2 after that, maybe physics 2 as well. Do really well on the retakes, get a lot more hours in a variety of settings, get great LORs, and do well on the GRE and you'll have a good shot. Also do your research about where you're applying to improve your odds.

Thank you for your replies.
Does it matter if A&P I+II is retaken at a community college or is it preferred at a university?

Your stats looks similar to mine. 3.14/3.11, received Cs in Physiology I and II (quarter system, got A in anatomy on a semester system elsewhere). If it makes you feel a bit of relief, I have been granted two interviews this application cycle so far. I just hope I perform well on interview day right now.

That depends on the school you're applying to. I'd encourage you to contact schools you're interested in and find out their policy.

Congrats on your interviews! And it does actually make me feel better. My question is are you a traditional student or non-traditional?

Well thank you for your help! I'll be sure to ask questions like that when I go to various open houses in the spring.

Yes and no. Traditional in the sense that I was still a biology-related major, Physiology/Neuroscience. I wasn't, say, a banker who had a mid-life crisis and wanted to do PT. I am not traditional in the sense that I did not apply straight out of college. I graduated college in 2010, and it took me several years to figure out what I wanted for my life and to work towards my goals. Unfortunately I live in an area where education is severely impacted; it is close to impossible to retake courses I received Cs in because 40 people petition for 35 seat courses with full waiting lists. I have to just go with what I got and hope for the best.

Well, thank you for your help and good luck on your interviews!

Thank you for your advice. I have actually decided to wait a year until I apply for PT school. It is primarily due to the fact that I'm not as qualified as other fellow applicants. Also, I am actually going to apply to Belmont when the time comes around. My sister and her fiancé previously graduated from Belmont's College of Pharmacy. Thank you for sharing your advice and your story!
