Where do you see yourself in 15 years?

Well, given the fact that I did everything backwards - by the time I'm applying I would have to say that I see myself enjoying being a doctor, and enjoying my grandkids. (my son will be 15 by the time I start applying to med schools)

probably throw something in there about being happy that I would then be able to devote more of my life to my work.

If asked in an interview:

Where do you see yourself in 15 years, what would you say?

Would you bring up the topic of wanting to raise a family? etc.
How about actually doing a little thinking on your own instead of expecting everything to be spoonfed to you?

That's a little harsh. I wouldn't mind seeing some interesting takes on this question...but it's true, "where do YOU see yourself in 15 years" is a personal question. Clinical practice (private, group, or hospital), specialty, research, teaching, marriage, kids, location, continuing education? 15 years seems like a long way away, but you should at least have a 15 year goal...even if it's likely to change. In 15 years you'll be almost 40 (assuming matriculation around 25)...I would certainly hope you have expectations of where you'll be by that time.

plastic surgeon fresh out of training makin mad $$$ and screwin mad hoes

The only bad answer to this question is not answering it directly. Simply be honest about it. If you haven't thought that far ahead, I suggest you do so now.

you must have been rejected by girls alot when you were in college

j/k...no need to get angry and wet your draws

Cheering on my NBA team as an MD/DO somewhere.

Hopefully by then, the Lakers will have picked up some fresh new talent. I'm guessing Kobe will have been traded by then, no longer in his prime but still very skillful. Odom may or may not have retired. Same with Fisher. Bynum and Farmar will have been traded by then, like most players after a few years with a team. Smush and Kwame will probably be decent, but not as good as good as Bynum and Farmar.

Trolling for ass in Thailand, praying to whatever god I may or may not happen to discover somewhere along the way, that when we get to the motel and the clothes come off, that they don't have dude parts.

Wait - we're all trying to get into med school here - who has time to find girls/guys when they are in college unless they already have someone?

Odd direction this thread has taken. Moving on.... I'm just going to be honest about not knowing exactly where I'll be. I sure thought I knew where I'd be 15 years after entering my last grad school, and I'm NOWHERE I thought I'd be! So, I'll make some generalizations about where I'd LIKE to be, but I think that I know enough about myself now to know that I won't know until I really get into medicine and see what the practice is like.

I agree. Not being sure is totally ok. interviewers know you'll have to see more of medicine before making a decision.

I don't really think about it too much, but the basics are married, a practicing physician, and owning a house. No plans for children here.

Whoever that dude in the picture is (Matlock or something you guys said?) isn't a plastics guy; he's an OB/GYN, actually. And an MD/MBA

Think of DKM as a much kinder and understanding version of the attending's that, as a pre-med, you HOPE will one day belittle you for being an incompetent, uneducated, clumsy, *****ic, waste-of-space sorry excuse for a doctor.

Get used to abuse now.

someone needs a life.
This from the "experienced" kid who can't even legally buy alcohol. 🙄 Just because I choose to post on here while on call and (more likely) because I bitchslapped you in your precious little thread about how great of an applicant you are you choose to try to call me out. How cute.......

younger than you, but obviously more mature.

Yeah, I find that hard to believe. I might be a prick, but that doesn't make me immature. They don't tend to put immature people in charge of firefighters. If you had actually taken your classes instead of testing out of them in a hellbent rush for your degree you might actually be able to recognize the difference.

Good luck getting in to medical school, buddy.

Nice response. 🙄 Best of luck to you as well....I can't wait for you to run into an attending so you can have your little Asian wunderkind attitude taken down a few pegs.

BTW, just FYI, I have a better GPA (and I actually earned mine), more LORs, more publications than you do and an excellent reputation amongst those I've actually worked with , so I shouldn't have a problem getting in.

Good for you.

It's unfortunate you're a tool, though. I'm sure you'll have fun being the outcast who thinks he's better than everyone else in his medical school class.

🙄 Learn not to make assumptions about the personality traits people you don't know other than through here. I don't think I'm better than everyone (I know I'm not). I just think I'm better than you.

haha!! I couldnt help but laugh at this post. Considering you have over 3,500 posts on here over the span of only 2.5 years, you can't possibly be one to talk ****.

i actually find these questions quite easy. I mean they are about YOU.

i digress. .. .

when i answered these for my secondaries, i thought "hmm, what do i like?" i enjoy dialogue and building relationships, so i'm thinking maybe internal medicine. but, i also like mechanisms of microbial pathogenesis so maybe i'll do a fellowship in infectious diseases. plus, i get bored easily so varied responsibilities would be good. Maybe part-time in a practice, consult at a hospital as well.

i love africa and am married to an african, so maybe return and do clinical service in the rural village where he grew up.

was that so hard?

i agree with the above posters that you should learn to think for yourself on these types of questions.
