OK, yeah, I am a little post happy here tonight. I think its just a way of me releasing some of that stress and anxiety that is driving me crazy. Anyhow, where do you guys study the best? This being my first semester in college, and living in a dorm, I always go to the library. And you know what? Its really depressing, sitting in a cubicle all day. And I dont really feel like I get a good study session in. Now that I am back at my parents house, I think I may just study in my room. The thought of doing so just seems like I would be able to get SO much more done, considering I dont have to pack up my things everytime I get hungry, have to go to the bathroom, or worry about other people being obnoxious on their cell phones. Plus, my room has windows! I just think I may be able to get more accomplished here.

I get my best reading done on the toilet. Lately I just haven't been able to study, combination of SDN, then lack of SDN (crash), cold weather, and porn.

oh dear its a poll, haha

You gotta find the obscure parts of the library.
Try the rare books section. No one ever goes in there.

I agree with this 100% - usually near the almanac stacks.

A couple bonuses:
1) Nobody around to bother you
2) Nobody around to complain if you bring in food (or lots of it so you don't have to leave)
3) Nothing to pick up and read (almanacs are more boring than anything you'd be studying)
4) No scramble for laptop/iPod power plugs.

i seek out the semi-trafficked sections of the library because

1) it's quiet, but not too quiet
2) if it gets too loud, i have my ipod
3) in my room, my computer distracts me

i also find that my studying becomes increasingly effective as the due date/time draws near.

I study best where there are people, but not many people that I know. Well trafficked areas of the library, coffee houses, parks, etc. all work well. 2 cups of coffee + the background noise of a public place = good studying for me.

On eating at the library:
If your school has more than one library, try studying at ones *not* meant for underclassmen. Our med library allows food & drink, while our undergrad library does not. I guess the idea is that the med students and faculty are not likely to spill food and not report it, while undergrads are? I've noticed similar rules at other universities... Also, I used to bring balance bars and bottled water into the computer labs or the library (even the no-food library), so I could eat something if I needed a snack. Just be discrete and don't leave a mess.

In my 3.5 years at my school I haven't once stepped foot in the library on campus to study. It is just another world for me. Prefer to cram at my own desk / bed. much more comfy.

if theres on thing iv learnt so far in college, its that i dont study at all when i go to the library.....i seemeed to get distracted very easily. and no matter how many places i try to hide, i always end up seeing someone i know.......... So this term i think il stay in my room and hopefullly get way more work done!

coffee shop. background noise + low music + caffeine = perfect environment. But if it's too close to school, I get interrrupted too often by friends.

Actually, I haven't studied anything in 6.5 months. :D I lvoe not being a student right now.

I go over to the funeral home where I work at night....it's quiet, no one to disturb me, and there are desks to study at.

I study at his house at night while he's at the funeral home. He's got a table to study at, too.
Seriously, the obscure libraries are great: Social work, foreign language, education. All these departments have libraries and no one goes there except for the work study students who work there. Or just find a random empty classroom at night. No one will notice you or care if they do. You can get your mack on in there with your 'study partners', too.

It's scary how packed the library is at 2am during finals week...

I am an attention *****. And I study where EVERYONE can see me. Entrance of the library (but inside it) its a see thru glass sturucture part of the library and the only entrance to all the libraries of the huge libraries.
I only function well when I m under scrutiny, otherwise i just dont see the point of all the work.... i know its preettty wierd, but whatever...

I used to study at Cafes and avoid the library, but the library has become my best friend, although I make sure not to bring the laptop otherwise the internet sucks me in for chunks of time.

Studying at home just doesn't work for me unless it's dire circumstances. Being at home just invites all kinds of distractions like laundry and dishes and other random house type things. I spend a lot of time in the study lounge on campus in a cubicle in order to get my work done.

Cafe. I don't know why, but the more distractions around the better I study, heh. Can't study at home at all. Can study in the library ok, but cafe is preferred.

No where near any computer when the SDN server is up, that's for damn sure. I need to get out of here now to study

Alone, at home and as far away from my computer desk as I can. I've tried studying at the library but every person and noise distracts me because I'd rather people watch then study. and unless its to quiz each other after youve studied independently groups are a no-go for me.

i agree...in four years of undergrad and two years of post-bac, i only went into the library at most a half dozen times...and twice was because i was drunk and needed to find a bathroom...
