Where does a 500 MCAT stand?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got into a few DO schools with a sub-500 MCAT score and average GPAs. I really wanted to do better on the MCAT and it makes me a bit self-conscious to have scored so low, but what I'm trying to say is that it is possible to get in somewhere with that score. I'm glad schools were willing to take a chance on me. For whatever reason, I could not crack that damn test--I was definitely NOT calm throughout the test, lol.
Lol when you say average GPAs, do you mean like 3.5 sci and cumulative??

Where were you accepted to if you don't mind sharing?

What schools did people with a 500/501 get into and were they in state or out of state schools?

You can look at the list of acceptances on SDN and see what people's MCAT were for what schools. You can also look up the thread with average MCAT scores and schools.

501's will get you a shot at a number of newer schools and a few longer established ones. Just looking at MCAT can however be very misleading, as a 500 person may have a 3.7+ c/sgpa along with really strong EC's, LOR's, work experiences, etc. That or the person may be a URM and highly sought after. It's not good to take any score or information in isolation. Even some schools that automatically eliminate people with <500's can have some lower scores get in for various financial/political reasons.

I think the key thing here to take away is that EARLY submission is critical to get adcoms to give you a sustained look---also your unique experiences. At least that's the feeling I have had after lurking here for years watching strong applicants linger and put off submitting apps till nov/dec and expecting II only to have nothing in hand come the end of the cycle. Whereas you may see some diamond in the rough(high gpa/low mcat and vice versa) play it smart and get stuff in early to give themselves the best possible outcome. In the end we are all in the same boat, hoping the gods are kind and give us that needed breath to set on the right course to medical school. We just don't know.

Mind sharing what school?

I had the equivalent of a 500 on the old MCAT. Applied last cycle, received 6 interviews, 4 acceptances, and declined my last to interview invites. Don't give up faith. Just apply broadly, really focus on your personal statement, and make sure you have things that you set you apart and make you more interesting than people with higher MCATs.

I know a URM from my undergrad with a 505 that go 10 MD interviews and 6 MD acceptances, 3 of them being top 20 programs.
Meanwhile a white dude like me with a ~510 got 2 interviews and 18 rejections on the MD side.
We both had same GPA, s3.7/c3.7
So goes the way of diversity
