I am finding that I study best late at night when the whole world is asleep...but it is totally ruining my sleep schedule!

It's too noisey at home, my friends always find me at the library, and I can't concentate at Starbucks. I guess I'll just stick to studying late in the nite.

Curious to know where everyone studies best....

My desk. My roomate is either at class, work, or is generally quiet. If tv is going, i plug in the good old earplugs 👍

I studied over the summer, mostly at home and in the quiet of my bedroom. There were occasional trips to the library or Starbucks with friends but we never got much accomplished.

Find a private room in your library. Sometimes you have to seclude yourself. My friends often give me **** for hiding, but it's worth it when I'm well studied. 👍

Law library: always quiet and no one knows to look for me there!

Oh-oh !

😉

At home, of course i had gone home for the weekend cuz it was my birthday so all my home friends were at college and i didnt bring back my computer or anything, so studying wasnt as boring as it usually is.

I can't study effectively in my dorm, as people IM me too much on the computer. I can't study well at home, because my mom or sisters are always bothering me. So, I force myself to go to the corner of the library, in some of the individual desks that we have, and I study there for 2 1/2 hours or so at a time. I've gotten behind, though, because more and more I'm using the breaks between my classes to do other things.

I'm somewhat unusual when it comes to studying. I actually like a little white noise. When it's utterly quiet, the lack of any ambient noise seems deafening to me. That said, I most prefer to study by myself in my own room. I just lock the door and turn on some music, or some TV, at low volume and crack open my books. It's important, of course, to be able to go out to the kitchen and get fuel for my brain and to get a fresh cup of coffee. Yeah, coffee has been my ally since I returned to school.

I like the nighttime, too. I'm a night owl. I'll sometimes wait until it's late and stay up all night reading or writing lab reports, when most everyone else is sound asleep (except the late night party-goers, who in their drunken stupor and less than hushed, giggly laughs course through the hallway, much to my amusement).

I have a similar study thing with spicedmana. I need some distraction when I study. If it is too quiet I can't concentrate. I am also a visual kinesthic learner. Basically I like to see and move as I learn. If I am at home in my room I have the tv or my ipod playing and I may be bouncing a ball or moving my hands to the drum beat (anything to move). I found that Starbucks got me through grad school. I lived in a dorm and could not stand to spend all day everyday in that room studying. Plus I hate libraries, to sterile. So I would go to starbucks, have coffee, and study. I found it worked will b/c when I needed a break I could just people watch

OP, you need to find what style learner you are and do whatever will let you get into a zone. If that is in your room with the door locked, or sitting at the beach/lake on a blanket, or where ever just find that place and keep going back.

I have a hard time studying if I don't have the perfect place. I can't study at my apt cause there are too many distractions(i.e. tv and bed), I can't study at a place like starbucks cause there's too much noise, and studying at the library is hard cause everyone comes up to talk to you and stuff. Therefore, I chose the next best place....medical school!! I just went to study at the medical school library. Most med school's libraries are open to the public. I could concentrate and not be distracted there. Plus, if I ever got really frustrated, I just looked around at all the med students and residents, knowing this is what i'm working toward, it kept me focused and on task. If that doesn't work, just give yourself an incentive....such as, if i finish 2 chapters by 10pm, then i'll go out and grab a few beers with my friends. Keeps me going!!

Oh yes...I do the exact same thing. I do not like studying at home, so I drive out to the medical school near my house and study there all the time. Good motivation also.

lol The law library here at Western is my favorite place as well... By far nicer and most undergrads don't know it's there making it relatively free...

I also found studying in the summer everyone goes home making the bigger libraries on campus great for studying...

I usually study in the library. I can get distracted there by my friends coming up and talking to me. If I really need to get some serious studying done I go to one of the study rooms in the science center. I have tried to study at home but there are far to many distractions, my dog, tv, food, etc. The biggest problem I have in studying is balancing studying for the MCAT with studying for my other classes. There are weeks when I have multiple tests (like this week) and I have a really hard time fitting in some MCAT studying.

Back in undergrad, I used to study in the basement of a lecture building. The basement happened to have a few tables and chairs, and I stumbled upon this mecca by pure coincidence. It was the BEST place to study as it was quiet, bright, and close to washrooms/water fountains. I used to study in the library in my first/second years, but I loose my focus too often with people coming up to chat. Also, I hate having "gunners" walking back and forth behind me to see what I'm working on. *sigh* that was my little corner of the world.
