Hi all! So I have all the info from my professional development course/my school’s job search resources, and obviously I can ask faculty/friends/coworkers/mentors about salary information at their practices. But I want to know - where have YOU found the most helpful info about what the average salary is for your specialty/location? I’m trying to navigate finding the most recent/up-to-date info on salaries for certain positions & in certain locations, and Glassdoor/Indeed/etc have not been all that helpful. I know we have some of the AVMA data, but even that’s just an average & can get out-of-date quickly. I want to make sure I’m asking for/making what I’m worth as a new grad, but not overshooting things insanely.

Specialities get hard because there is so much variation with COL/geographic location, how busy you are, corporate vs. academia, etc. For someone in GP or a fairly common specialty, I'd recommend joining several veterinary FB groups and posting as much info on your potential contract as you are comfortable posting. Debt-Free Vets is a good one, lots of people willing to give opinions on contracts in there. There may be specialty specific groups I'm not aware of as well.

I know pathology has a survey done every few years where the college publishes salary results. I’m not sure if other specialty colleges do anything similar. But I agree with pp9 that there will be huge regional variations, so talking to people in those areas and fields plus posting for opinions in groups is probably most useful. There are lots of “is this a fair offer” type posts in Debt Free Vets.

Fantastic, thank you both! I’m already part of DFV but I’ll take a look at what other regional groups exist!

This YouTube video has decent info! Info is limited as far as all specialties, but its helpful.

I once came across a reddit thread where vets were listing their location, type of practice, and salary. You might be able to find it if you search!

This may be the reddit thread JezDuke mentioned
