Just finished my AACOMAS application, just about ready to submit with my LORs all worked out and transcripts on the way-- I know I am on the late end but hopefully not too late.

26 MCAT (8PS/10V/8BS), 3.8 GPA, good ECs and clinical experiences, VA resident. I have a strong interest in rural/underserved primary care.

So far I have WVSOM, VCOM (Virginia campus), and LECOM (Erie/Seton Hall) on my list. Looking to apply to 1 or 2 more. Any suggestions?

LUCOM? (since it's in VA, and it's new so it'd probably be a safety school based on your GPA and MCAT.)

Thanks for the suggestion! I am morally and philosophically opposed to Liberty's whole system so I don't think it would be a good fit for me.

Staying in the general area, and thinking of schools you'd have a decent shot at, I'd say LMU and KCUMB.

I completely understand.

Adding some new ones like MUCOM or CUSOM might be a good idea since their relatively in your region and, like you said, it's late in the cycle so newer schools may be more accommodating of someone with your stats this late.

You're looking at about 4-6 weeks of verification, maybe later depending on the delivery of the transcript. Just make sure none of the deadlines are close and get your secondaries in quickly and you may have a chance at getting an interview. But...like you said, it's very late in the cycle and theres a good chance you won't hear anything. I was verified last year around this time and didn't hear anything back. (granted my GPA was much lower than yours)

Anyway, good luck!

Thank you again! I love that MUCOM is a Catholic institution with Franciscan values and CUSOM is very focused on the rural southeast. Great advice.

If you have a serious interest in rural care then I would definitely consider KYCOM. According to US news and world report they are 5th in the nation in rural care (tied with unc chapel hill) and 4th in affordability as a private medical school (behind Baylor, mayo, and Lecom). They are also second in percentage of graduates who go into primary care residencies of any school in the country. Their facilities are brand new (there is a new 350 bed hospital within a mile of the school too) and the last plug I'll put in besides their impressive match list is the student to faculty ratio (classes of 135). I will admit there are rumors on SDN of lower board pass rates (which aren't published so any rumor about that is strictly here say) and bad clinical rotation experiences (Not sure where this started but I talked to two recent grads both in competitive allopathic residencies who spoke highly of their clinical experiences).
I was just accepted there (3.4 GPA 29 mcat (8 PS, 11 VR, 10BS)) and took my parents to visit today so I am blatantly biased for sure but reading your interests I had to throw Kycom out there because I'm a fan. Hope I swayed you 🙂 haha
