I am looking into going to a post bac and would like opinions on where to go and how likely it will be that i get accepted. I'm 27 and graduated in 2002 from a liberal arts college in WI with a 3.56gpa. Majored in International Studies, minors in Spanish and Peace and Justice Studies. I tested into calc and analytic geom 2, but did not finish the class, as i did not need it for my major and already got calculus credit from high school. Besides that i did not take any "real" math or science classes. i dont remember my ACT score, not sure it would even count anymore as it was so long ago. Ive done alot of volunteer work, mostly with underprivileged people in Ecuador and on the east coast. I worked for 4 years at a treatment facility for at risk youth... most had mental health issues, but not really a clinical setting. And now, well, now i package cheese... thus my need to go back to school... any help would be greatly appreciated. I am willing to go anywhere, but schools like goucher, bm, and scripps interest me the most.

Hahaha you're from Wisconsin and you package cheese -- awesome. For someone who's never been to the state, that seems like such a glorious stereotype. Anywhoo, to answer your question seriously -- you've definitely got a shot at Bryn Mawr. I got my acceptance letter for the coming year's program a few months ago, and I can't say my credentials are really any more impressive than yours. In fact, my GPA is lower (3.48). Keep in mind, though, that I went to a notoriously academically difficult school (according to Mary Beth at Bryn Mawr), so maybe that helped. This alma mater of yours...is it Beloit? If so, I'd say that's an elite liberal arts school, which Bryn Mawr, for one, loves to see. The only thing I did that you didn't was become an EMT and do some occasional volunteering with rescue squads -- if you have time this summer, consider getting certified. I promise it's easy and not all that time-consuming, yet it looks great on paper (and sounds good when you mention it in the interview). Bottom line: I'd be shocked if you didn't at least get an interview at Bryn Mawr. From that point, unless you're a psycho or really crappy at interviews, you've got a decent change of getting in. Last year, they interviewed only 110 to fill a class of 75.

Goucher is harder to get into because the class size is only 20-25, as opposed to Bryn Mawr's 75. I myself got waitlisted there. If you want to compare credentials with me more specifically, to get an idea of your chances, PM me or check the Bryn Mawr post, where I think I detailed them.

As far as Scripps go, I'm an east coast boy so I'm not really sure. I know it's on the same level as Bryn Mawr and Goucher, but for more details you should hit up my pal 'Julietcf14;' she's really nice/funny and did the Scripps program last year. You'll find her posting occasionally on the post-bac forum. Good luck.

How did you go about getting to be a certified EMT? I have tons of volunteers experience (400 hrs +) in all kinds of settings- do you think being an EMT would an extra plus for BM? I really love their program.
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply!! Yes... WI and cheese, what can i say?? however, I was vegan for 5 years of my life and vegetarian for half of my existance so supplying the world with cheese isn't quite my ideal job, but it pays the bills!🙂🙁

I feel more hopeful after your response since im not psycho!!

Thanks again!

I dunno where my Scripps College thread went, but I posted a pretty detailed review of the program. I'll try to dig it up. And yes, Juliet is the real deal 🙂
