Hi guys so I was wondering you all you guys bought your slacks and shirts at. I normally go to express and get the european cut shirts and such, but since I'm going to buying around 5+ shirts and 3+ (I lost a lot of weight somewhat recently). Any suggestions are appreciated! 😀 I just don't walmart clothes.

i find kohls usually has good quality clothes at reasonable prices, escpecially if you catch something on their clearance racks.
same applies to jcpennt and macy's.
marshalls and tjmaxx also tradictionally have good deals but it is harder to find quality clothes that will last you.

if you are still in the process of losing weight (and congrats on that!!) i recommend weartodaygonetomorrow.com a site where you can effectively "rent" clothes and use them and then exchange them.

hth some 🙂

Add also add Ross to the list. Additionally don't disregard thrift stores. I used to have a bias against them until I final broke down and went shopping at a Saver's with my wife. There were many items with original store tags on them (things that cost 80 bucks at macy's that were marked to 6 bucks at saver's) or things that were obviously worn once, washed and donated. Of course there is a ton of junk that have stains, rips, or say "i'm with stoopid" that I'd never buy but there are some diamonds in the rough

I have tried nearly everything, and I swear the best pants I've found are found at Kohls...the Croft and Borrow Microfibers. They are comfortable, decently priced, and last forever. I've still got some that I bought like 8 years ago.

As for shirts, they do pretty well on that too (Chaps, Haggar), but being a thick necked goon, I've found that Brooks Brothers are simply the best fitting shirt I've ever encountered. I get them at the outlet store, however. Can't afford to pay the real prices, but the ladies at the store says none of their stuff has defects..to the point that they can't even sell anything that has anything remotely wrong with it.

Marshalls and TJ Maxx - they have good stuff for really cheap. You can get nice polo button downs for like half the price as in the department store. They also have shoes for cheap too.

This may come off a bit obvious to most but do you guys machine wash shirts or get them dry cleaned? I just threw mine in the washer (express shirts) and well they faded after the first wash a good amount (darker colors). The lighter ones were ok. I sort of want a few nice crisp ones that are formal and a majority being like abercrombie where I can just wash them and they come out looking then same afterwards.

See if there is an outlet mall close to you. They normally have great deals on formal clothing. I picked up three pairs of slacks and few shirts for a decent price at Banana Republic and J Crew.

For pants, go to the regular Banana Republic store. Find the clearance rack at the back of the store. They usually have a few choices of last season's pants for 30ish bucks. Excellent quality.

For shirts, I like van Heusen shirts and their sub-brand Donald Trump shirts. Find both at a van Heusen outlet store. They are 20-35 bucks each, and out of the washer/dryer, they look fresh from the dry cleaner. They even tell you when you buy them that you should never dry clean them, because it removes the wrinkle free coating from them.

For ties, you gotta man up and buy expensive ones. Ties aren't a place to skimp. They make or break the outfit. You may think you found a decent one at Marshall's or something, but trust me, you didn't. Same for shoes.

Brooks Brothers outlet sells good stuff. Very pricy though. FYI, they don't sell the same clothing at the outlet (aside from some of the ties, pocket squares, accessories, etc). The shirts, pants, suits, jackets are all separate lines created especially for the outlets. So no, they aren't selling damaged/defective goods, but they also aren't selling the same product you find in the regular stores.

Right now our local JCPenney's is having a buy one, get one 50% off on Docker's and selling their St. John's Bay brand for $19 for a pair of slacks.

At the start of 3rd year, I booked down to Men's Wearhouse and 'tried on' some dress slacks/shirts to get my size done by someone who knew what they were doing. Then, feeling devious and somewhat like a dirtbag for doing it, I went down to the local outlet mall and picked up 6 pairs of slacks with 6 matching shirts for less than $150. Drycleaning the shirts is about $.99 a piece and the slacks go in the wash and immediately are hung up after the dryer is done with 'em. No ironing necessary. I still have the slacks and shirts and they're in good shape.....

Since Men's Wearhouse was so nice, I purchased some ties and sportcoats here recently along with some 'dress interview' shoes when I was interviewing in 4th year. If you catch their sales, you can get some really great shirts for around $40 a piece.....but that's more attending money than resident/student money.....

Good luck....and one thing --- look old school professional....Nothing gives older patients the willies than when they see some doofus with skin tight (think spandex level) slacks, dress shirt with no T-shirt or better yet your favorite beer T-shirt, a tie with a huge monkey-paw Windsor knot that comes to just above the umbilicus, thick soled Doc Martens and the ensemble is topped off with a soul patch, pencil line sideburns into pencil line chin beard and huge, fake, Pro-football style square stud CZ earrings.......Yeah, that really inspires confidence......and this clown thought there was nothing wrong with his appearance...and considered it 'professional'......

Allheart.com has some good deals on scrubs.

Advice on Brooks Brothers clothing - sign up for a Border's Rewards card (free), go to Border's website, and access their Corporate Perks deals. You can get a Brooks Brothers 15% corporate discount card (for free), and I've found that the in-store salesman will apply the discount even to sale items.

Buy items using their combo deals if not on sale - e.g. their non-iron slim-fit shirts. Retail price is high, but by buying 3 at a time and using the discount, I get each shirt for $57 plus tax. Still a bit high, but it's wrinkle free, saves me a bunch of time not ironing, and it fits much better than anything else I've found at other stores. I only wash once every other time I wear them (unless the day was particularly messy), and I don't doubt I will be wearing these for my residency interviews - the construction seems decently solid.

LOL I believe I have the audacity to sport "clip ons" as a matter of social ineptitude. Some of them look pretty decent so I might choose that route 😀. I also have nice ties that my older sister bought ($100 TOO MUCH!!!) but they're a bit to umm.... expensive and I feel sort of like I'm driving a ferrari in compton lol.
