Where to get help picking schools?

Yeah I am picking, I don't have much money to spend on primary apps since I want to use it on interviews. I have the MSAR too but it doesn't tell you the really useful details that SDNers seem to know. So whats the right place to ask? I'm sure a lot of people must do it 😛

And if you need help getting started, I'd start with all the schools in my homestate (unless you live in one of the ridiculous states like New York or California) and any within driving distance (easier interview logistics). From there, add with the MSAR based on states, and allow the "what are my chances" folk to pare it down. Tweak and repeat as necessary until you're satisfied with the list.

Make a list using your desired location and your competitiveness (GPA/MCAT/ECs).

Then run it by your premed advisor. That person is most familiar, or should be, with the strength of your application coming from your undergrad. He/she will have a good sense how others before you have done in the process with your numbers.

The "what are my chances" threads, while useful, do not have the perspective on your chances coming from your undergraduate school.

One thing I did that was helpful was to look at other people's MDApps profile. I find those people with similar stats and state residencies as I do and see where they have had success.
