i've got a baron's book and a KAPLAN book... where do i get lots more? do i have to take the KAPLAN course?...

Those are all the legit (by legit, I mean time-tested) sources that I know of.
Other companies might make tests, but the ones you listed are the best-known for their accuracy.
I didn't use Barons, but I recall some people complaining that it had a lot of errors and the difficulty didn't match the real DAT in any way.
Kaplan is good for learning their stuff, they use TopScore Pro to measure how well you learned the stuff.

yeah... i think you're right about the difficulty of baron's (a hair too easy)...
one of the 3rd year was just telling me that taking the KAPLAN course was the best way to go... but, at this point paying $900 just doesn't even make sense...
what do you think?

I definately recomed studying they Kaplan book and using the top score CD. I also strongly recomend that you somehow get hold of the other DAT resources kaplan offers such as the subject tests and the full length DAT's. I recomed trying the following things:
1)From what I understand that if you took kaplan for DAT prep once, you can take the same kaplan DAT prep again for only 200 bucks or so.
2) You can always find a friend currently enrolled into Kaplan DAT prep course and ask him to take some extra copies for you of the exams they give at the center. I know for a fact that they give at least 3 tests to students and at least 3 more are available in paper version which you can take home.
What ever you do, you should get hold of these materials.

It is good to see that you have not given up on you goal to become a dentist. I saw your post in the dental forum. I think for the majority of dental students and predents they have not failed before and some times get very confounded and do not know how to react. I personally had many failures in my early college career, but I did what you are doing. I bounced back and fought even harder.
To address your question, get Top Score 3DATs (definitely a good representation) Kaplan blue book 2DATs, and what you may savage from Kaplan course program. I do not think paying the 900 is worth it. Try to get the material without the paying if possible. The instructors at Kaplan are worth ****.
