Hey All,

I hope I don't sound too compulsive, but I just finished first semester, and am disappointed in my grades.

I ended up with a 3.80 for 15 credits, with a B+ in Biology I, and an A- in Chemistry. I am worried about the sGPA since it's 3.50

I'm mainly upset since the Biology grade would have been an A- since I was on the upper end of the curve borderline, and the teacher was a real jerk about not rounding grades and her psyche behind it.

The problem is I have to have her for next semester Biology II, and I don't know where to go from here since she's a pretty rough personality and seems out to get us with no sympathy or curving (third year teaching, so she wants tenure I assume).

Any tips for better grades in Bio and Chem?

Thanks

you stop blaming your mistakes on the professor (and her refusal to curve the grades), and focus on your weaknesses + how to do better. rather than complaining to your professor about grades, ask her for guidance + ways to improve. she'll appreciate that you're taking her course seriously and demonstrating willingness to learn.

Your GPA right now is okay and as long as you continue to do well in your science courses you will find that 3.5 goes up pretty fast early on in college. I think this time around you will be able to evaluate your effort/work in the class and adjust accordingly to get the A this time around. You will know her testing format and question type, so take advantage of this.

Study more and don't be on the borderline next time.

It's not the responsibility of the professor to give you extra points to get you above a curve if you lie in the middle.

Go to office hours and go over tests with her, ask questions about concepts you need help with. She'll appreciate the effort and be happy to help and you'll start to get a better idea of the kinds of questions that show up on exams. You have to study smart, hard, and be proactive if you want an A.
