Hi Rad-Onc group,

I have posted in the past, and I am now back for some more advice. Like I have mentioned previously, I have become interested in rad-onc rather recently due to a number of personal situations. Unfortunately, I did not really have exposure to this field in med school and did not really consider it. I am doing my internship, and will be doing a rotation in rad-onc, but the program I'm in does not have a residency program. I also do not have research in rad-onc. Do I have any shot at all at getting in? Is there anything I can do to to help my situation? I feel rather disillusioned regarding this. I know there are some great candidates out there that deserve to get a spot in this field, but what can I do in my situation? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You need to start making connections and doing research. You don't have to have a huge amount of rad onc research but if you can get involved in something that will help. Does your internship let you do a month of research and could you do it at a rad onc department that has a residency program?

Keep an eye out for any pgy2 opening for next year as that would obviously be ideal for you and sometimes such positions open up.

I don't know the rest of your application. It won't be easy but it isn't impossible.
