Hey guys,

I'll be attending Pitt and I was wondering if I could get some advices on where to live off-campus. I'm looking for a 1 bedroom apt in a safe and close area to school that has easy access to the buses and shuttles (at a reasonably monthly rent of course). I heard Shadyside is a good place to live, but is there any other places? Any input is appreciated.

Also, would I need a car to get around?

Thanks so much for the help!!!

I'll be seeing you at Pitt next Fall too, and this is something I've also been wondering about. I remember them saying something along the lines of them sending us a packet about housing and such, but I only just sent my check in, have you gotten any of that? Also, if I may add more to the original posters question, when is a good time to go look for an apartment? I live in CA and I'm going back east for my brother's graduation in early June, but is that too early?

In talking with the students during my interview they had said that you really didn't need a car since the bus system was pretty good, plus you get free bus usage with your student ID.

I just sent my deposit last week, so I haven't gotten anything yet about housing. I think June should be a good time to look for an apartment. I think is a good idea to start early so they don't get full. See you in the fall!

I sent in my deposit in the beginning of Feb. and have yet to receive anything other than an email from Rose confirming my deposit.

I sent my deposit in right around the turn of the year and I still haven't received any housing information from Rose. I think that she'll send us something within the next couple of months to just get the ball rolling for us. I wouldn't worry about trying to get an apartment too early in the year. Most of the students that I have talked to have said that they didn't look until sometime in the summer.

Oh, and Shadyside is where most of the dental students live, if I remember correctly. It's supposed to be pretty nice there and it's pretty reasonable rent-wise.

Congratulations to all of you guys on your acceptance to Pittsburgh!

I went to undergrad at Pitt and I would recommend you start looking for housing earlier than June if you want to find something nice. There are alot of college students here with there being like 5 Universities so close. I would also recommend shady side. The prices will be more expensive than South Oakland (where most of the undergrads live) but it will be safer. PM me if you have any other questions. Good luck and congrats on your Pitt acceptance

I'd live in oakland! You can experience everything pittsburgh has to offer! such as: snow, cold, sh*tty weather, no sun, nothing to do, crappy bars, morbid obesity, rowhouses, the drunk compass, and all of pgh's illustrious museums and cultural activities!

Hahaha, that cracks me up!!! :meanie: DMDMDMD...:laugh::laugh:
