Does anyone know of a good hotel in the area of VCU. The ones in downtown richmond seems to be shady or expensive. I have an early interview, so I would like to be as close as possible to the school.

thanks

I stayed at the Commonwealth Park Suites Hotel. It's easy walking distance (I walked in the morning to my interview). It's at 901 Bank Street, and it was $85 (preferred rate for VCU). I chose it because it was the closest hotel I could find. It's not sketchy at all in the daytime, maybe a tiny bit at night, but I just stayed in and watchd tv--the rooms are gorgeous (they're all suites, so they have a living room and stuff)

stay at Commonwealth Park Suites. $74/night
The rooms are huge.. well they are suites of course. Very close to campus about a 5 minute walk. Good luck on your interview the students there are really laid back and friendly.

hi pratik7,

i have an interview coming up at VCU and will be staying at the commonwealth park suites also. i called around to a number of hotels and found that the prices aren't necessarily cheaper as you move further away from the school; decided it'd be best to be right across the street, walk to the interview, and not worry about traffic and parking in the morning. prices are std for interviewees for one or two bed-suites; check out is at noon and you dont have to move the car from valet until u r done with the interview. guy on phone was very nice. hope this helps and good luck to you.

I stayed at the Marriott Downtown. It was a short 4 block walk to the school from there.

I sincerely wish I could offer my guest room - I drive downtown for work every morning, and would be happy to have VCU applicants stay the night - but my guest room flooded out and needs repair before its fit for human habitation.

Why don't you try and stay with a student? I did this for most of my interviews last year and it is great because 1) you get an in depth look at the life of a med student, and 2) it's free!

I got a great impression of VCU last year by staying with a student and learning all about the school the night before my interview.

Good Luck!

I was thinking about staying with a student, but im not sure about how the sleeping arrangments would workout and wouldnt want to be up late incase the med student is studying or watching TV :meanie: :scared:

Med students watch TV? And here I was going to sell my 60" plasma to pay for tuition! Guess I gotta get a bigger loan 😛

is there any way to get to the VCU area w/o needing to get a taxi? I called that hotel (commonwealth park) and they said they don't have a shuttle. Also, if you guys did all take taxis, do you remember how much it ended up being? Thanks!

i pricelined and got to stay at the marriot on Broad St. It is about 5 blocks away from the med school.. you don't need a taxi or car to get from the Marriot to the school. I got 2 nights at the Marriot for $100. Try pricelining, a 3 star hotel in Downtown richmond for a price of $100....hopefully you will get the Marriot...if not...don't blame me =)

i was at the mission in by the airport...they have a free shuttle service, student discount. It cost me $14 to get to school.

I got back from my interview last week at VCU and stayed at the commonwealth suites. The school is .3 miles from the suites and about 10 mins walk. You do not need a taxi and because it is walkable. The interview rate is $74 a night and the rooms are pretty nice.

whoops, I guess I was more worried about how to get from the airport to the hotel, any thoughts on that?

Richmond cabs were surprisingly expensive, so I think trying to find a shuttle would probably be ideal. Sorry, I don't know if there are shuttles (maybe someone else does?), but I would suggest that you avoid cabs if possible...I felt pretty robbed by my cabbies. Best of luck 🙂

i interviewed there last week also and i used groom transportation (shttle service...do google search on it) to go from the airport to commonwealth park suites. the price is around 16 bucks. you can ask them to add that to your hotel bill

good luck for the interview
👍

Hey everyone,

I'm excited and a little nervous for my first interview; its @ VCU next month. I've been trying to decide whether to stay with a student, or hit up that commonwealth park hotel that many of you have had good expericences with.

I think the hotel would be alright just b/c I could make sure I'd be comfortable, and get some sleep, but my advisor seems to think that if I stay with a student, that that student might say something nice about me to the admissions office. Any suggestions/advice?

uhhh this may sound stupid... but whats VCU stand for?
