Hi everyone,

I'm a recent graduate and have finished all my pre-reqs except Gen Chem II. I already took the MCAT and am planning to apply this cycle.

Long story short, my school doesn't have a typical Gen Chem I or II sequence. Most students have to take Biochem or Pchem to fulfill their second semester requirement. I dropped Biochem last semester, so now I have to look for a second semester Gen Chem II course. I'm wondering if it matters where I took the course. I graduated from an Ivy League, and while perceived prestige doesn't personally matter to me, I'd like to know what is typical for med school admissions.

I'm a little nervous that I'm taking a summer course as I've already taken Physics II last summer at my home institution. I do have a strong GPA and Gen Chem II should be extremely easy for me, as I already learned it for the MCAT. I'm mostly trying to get it out of the way so I don't have to take it during the fall when I'll be working full-time. I have the option of taking it at Providence College, my state school, or I could go find a course at another Ivy League school. However, it is extremely expensive to take it at a similar institution and I'd have to drive to get there (I'm living in Providence for the summer so taking it at PC makes sense). However, I do not want anymore questions on my application and am okay with trying to take it somewhere else. What are your thoughts on this (taking a summer course and where to take it)?

Thanks, all!

Does anyone have an answer for this? Thank you 🙂

Have you considered taking gen chem 1 and 2 at a community college?

State school would be most appropriate, in my opinion. CC as a last resort.

It's just gen chem tbh, you can do that over a summer since most CC's have two summer sessions--you can do chem 1 and 2 back to back.
