I know this isn't a political site and I know Texas is a big, diverse state, but the public face projected by Texas' political institutions is not inviting to agnostics, atheists and others with non-traditional beliefs. Consider:
The Republican Party of Texas Platform 2004
"The Republican Party of Texas affirms that the United States of America is a Christian nation
Our Party pledges to exert its influence to restore the original intent of the First Amendment of the United States Constitution and dispel the myth of the separation of Church and State."

Article I, Sec 4 of the Texas Constitution
"No religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office, or public trust, in this State; nor shall any one be excluded from holding office on account of his religious sentiments, provided he acknowledge the existence of a Supreme Being."
